Question Very Confused

Hi. I've read the FAQ. I've looked at a few websites. I'm still very confused about this process.

I understand that some I can bring a CD to the store, others I can upload them. My question is, when they talk about trimming the pages, does this affect the layout (does somethings get cut off)? Some places don't do 12x12, do I go bigger then trim it? Would that be the best thing to do?

Do you have any advice that you wish you knew the first time you got your pages printed?

I'm ready to print my pages..so far I have 8. I'm just not sure where to go and what to expect from this.

Thank you very much for anything you can share with me.

My suggestion: Have one LO printed first and then see if you are happy with the results from the printer/developer you choose. If something is not right than at least you did not pay for 8 bad prints - - just one. It will also allow you to make any adjustments to your LOs if necessary. I found that when I was having 8x10s printed, anything too close to the edge of the LO is cut or is right at the edge - - it bothers me! It has something to do with the way the printer is setup. Even my borderless home printer will do this unless I make an adjustment to the printer setting.

If you are doing 12x12 and the company you are using does not offer 12x12, you will of course have to choose a bigger photo paper size and then trim to 12x12 - - if you are doing this than you should not lose any of the LO. You can also have other things printed on that same piece of photo paper so that there is less waste. What I have done is open a new document in my scrapping software that is the size of the photo paper offered by the printer and then I have added other photos as they fit - - a couple of 4x6s usually - - but that would be up to you and again would depend on the photo paper size. Of course, you would need to save the "NEW" document as a JPEG - - the format most commonly used by the industry - - to avoid problems and confusion with the printer.

HTH!

Some companies where you can upload LOs will show you a preview of what will print and what will be cropped. With the company I work for, I know that they will crop 1/8 inch on 3 sides and 1/4 inch for the binding, so when I start a LO, I set guides for those dimensions and stay within them. Then, if I want something to the edge of the page, I just put it to the guide and I know it won't be cut off!

I have gone to several places (Kinko & another lab) and was told that 12 x 12 would cost $20 to print. Has anyone used Walmart and what size have you purchased?

I went to my local Walmart and asked if they printed 12x12, she said No, and walked away. I have no idea if they do any other sizes..lol. I was also at CVS the other and decided to ask the photo guy if they did 12x12, he was much nicer and said no, they can only print 8 wide. I least I can't do that.

Shiny Nickels seems to be cheap ($2), not sure on shipping, and not sure what others think of it.

There are oline printing services that accepts 12x12 prints with trimming. I think Costco is one, they print 12x12's for $2.99. You can ask them for a preview of your scrapbook.

You might want to check out this site:
http://www.sbtoshare.com/Digital_v1.htm

they give free samples

I haven't tried it yet, but I'm going to- for those prices it's worth a try.

ETA- I don't think they use actual photo paper, but I still want to send for the free samples to see what they look like.
