Thanks Shelley,

That was an interesting read. I send it to dh, although being a computer geek, he probably knows all about it anyway. He says the response time is important to gamers and graphics workers with LCD screens and the refresh rate is important to CRT screens. My CRT is set to 85 hz, so I don't suffer eye strain. Very important since I sit here up to 17 or 18 hours a day.

Cheers,
Suz

flat screen monitor

Ditto Pesto's advice. I got an Apple 17" flat screen display a couple years ago & have been in 7th Heaven! I didn't do much to calibrate, but I do use my printer's (Epson) profile & change the settings according to the kind of paper I use--this is VERY important! I print a lot of photographs to sell, so switch around a lot from Premium Glossy to matte to plain. Also, using the paper designated for the printer (i.e., Epson printer: Epson paper) makes a world of difference. I have a friend who refuses to buy anything but what's on sale & consequently gets horrible results and can't understand why, even after my prompting her. Just FYI, my desk sits parallel to a south window; thus, I get a lot of ambient light in the afternoon. I also do a lot of work at night. I've had no problems with this either. Good luck!

Thanks SR! Finally found time to read the article you linked to and it was a good one! I found the paragraph about screen resolution to be particularly interesting. Due to poor eyesight (not to mention advancing age! ) I don't like to set my screen at as high a resolution as it's capable of...I had no idea that monitors compensated for that the way the article described.

This seems like a good time to thank you for your diligent efforts to always share interesting web finds with SBB members...I hope you know it's appreciated!
