I got mine on newegg - it is an acer AL1716 17" flat panel LCD. They had ones with more bells and whistles on it too, but it was the one I could afford It is WAY beautiful There is a picture of it on my blog too

Sorry for being late in answering Pattie - You wont necessarily be sorry about purchasing a LCD, When i did some reading up I found the biggest complaint with them was color calibration because LCD screen brightness and color depends on the angle of view, and is more susceptible to ambient lighting etc. Its not that its impossible its just that the likelyhood of being able to plug it in and get print matching perfect first off isnt as common. So its just something you need to be aware of As Raech says she has no problems

Thanks SR! Unless the money tree in my backyard begins to grow soon it's not an immediate problem for me anyway....but seeing someone who knows what she's talking about (that would be you! <grin>) mention that they were known to be difficult to callibrate made my ears perk up. Just went and looked at Raechels on her blog....I'm green....and would appear to be so on ANY monitor! LOL!

If you are fussy, then for best results I would purchase a CRT monitor. I purposely have a new 19" CRT and dh has a 19" LCD. The difference is huge. I love the look of the flat screens, but my CRT is perfect for my images and graphics.

A couple months ago, I too had an enlightening moment with monitor calibration.
Not sure if your monitor is calibrated correctly? Here are a couple links to check out:

I found their tips extremely helpful and much cheaper than buying a monitor calibrator!

I hope this helps!

For best results (CRT or LCD), use of a hardware calibrator is a must.. and a mid-high quality one at that. Of course, calibrating your monitor is only 1/2 the puzzle.. sure, your prints now look great on the screen.. but they might have looked great before! If you aren't using ICC profiles for your printer (specific to the ink/paper and hardware), then your prints might not match your calibirated screen.

Also, many people forget to embed the ICC profile into the files they are sending out to print.. if you do that, you will get an uncalibrated print back from your printer. So, be sure to inquire if your printer will use the embedded ICCprofiles when making prints. Places like Walmart and target might not...

I print at Costco and so I've downloaded their ICC profile to color proof my layout before I send. In the past, I've noticed the store I use gets a new ICC profile posted every Feb so I usually check then. Well, I guess they got new machines and didn't know. Little disappointed with my prints but its taught me check the ICC profile dates every time I print.
