Unhappy HELP!!! Cannot import favorites on to new computer.

I purchased a new computer and am trying in vain to transfer my 'Favorites' folder and my 'Address book' over to my new computer. I am transferring from a Dell Dimension 8200using Windows XP Professional to an HP Pavillion using Windows XP home edition. I am trying to do this by first burning a CD with said items on the CD. When I try to import it onto the new computer I get a message like "Address Book file has been locked by another application. Close other application and try again." Other messages just say unable to import. I don't have a clue as to where to even look for these 'other applications'. I've gone to user forums to help address this problem. I've found great instructions on how to do the process, only problem is, they're not working for me!!! Anyone out there able to offer some suggestions??!!

I can't help you w/the address book since i don't use Outlook, but I've recently got a new laptop and was able to transfer my bookmarks if that is what you mean by "favorites". I use Mozilla Firefox.

--On old laptop I open up Firefox
--Go to BOOKMARKS --> MANAGE BOOKMARKS
--The Bookmarks Manager should open up
--FILE --> EXPORT
--Choose a place to save the file and a name...I just leave it as "Bookmarks"
--I email this file "Bookmarks" to myself (guess you can also save it to a floppy, cd, etc)

--On my new laptop I d/l that "Bookmarks" file
--BOOKMARKS --> MANAGE BOOKMARKS
--FILE --> IMPORT
--Choose the "from file" option
--NEXT
--Find the location of the "Bookmarks" file and follow the remaining steps.

I know Explorer has a similar Export/Import function, but I haven't done it since I use Firefox.

Talking SUCCESS!!!

Thank you Karen for your post. I decided to give it one more try-all the hours on the week-end weren't enough! I was successul this pm. On the old computer I copied the file to the desktop and then burned it to the CD. Then I put the CD in the new computer, copied it to the desktop, then from Outlook Express and then Explorer I imported from the desktop.For some reason the computer found that acceptable-it just would not import from the CD. Guess I should have thought of that sooner, but sometimes you just need a good nights sleep to let your brain start thinking more clearly! Hope this helps someone else in the future!
