Pesto 126... help!

... or anyone else that knows (she has helped me before!) I am getting a new pc and need to know what the difference is between dual channel SDRAM and shared SDRAM... obviously the dual channel is more expensive. What is the difference and is is worth it to go dual channel? Anything else I should know? Thanks so much! You are a wealth of info!

I'd try to help, but afraid beyond understanding SDRAM, I can't explain. If Pesto doesn't show up, I'd suggest you call the online sales assistance for any of the reputable computer companys. They'll be very happy to explain... let's face it, they want you to buy from them so they want to help you...

Another option is to call one of the online memory sites (they sell memory) and again are very helpful, including recommending the memory based on your needs... Don't know where you're located by memorygiant.com comes to mind and zipzoomfly.com

HTH in the interim

Thanks, I guess I'll leave it to the pros... it's always nice to get a third parties' opinion though... you know, someone who isn't going to make commission off of what they tell me! <LOL>!

just remember, while these people are going to make a commission, if they are reputable at all they'll give you the straight scoop. they want you to be happy and come back.

Hi Tango.. sorry for the delay in getting back to you.. there could be a few meanings but what I believe they are referring to is:

Dual Channel -> they install matched memory modules (same CAS speed settings) into specially linked slots on the motherboard which does increase memory speed and perfermance. On the last PC I built, I went with this... not sure how much of a gain I really saw from it but it wasn't too much more expensive then just buying a single memory module.

It is important for them to ensure that the memory sticks are made to work together.. crucial, kingston, PNY and a few other better companies sell memory sticks for dual channel in special packages..

In reality.. you won't see that much of a difference so if the price is much more.. stick with the non dual channel.

Hope this helps.. and didn't reach you too late! Good Luck
