Trouble printing 12X12

Help-
I have come to the experts here to answer my dilemma! I am ready to print a 12X12.using DIP Pro. I have the wide format printer and paper. (Epson 1280) But when I go to customize under printing it will not give me 12 X12 no matter how I punch it in. I can have 12 X 9 or 11X 13. etc. I am finally ready to start digitally scrapping after months of absorbing all I can get my hands on and this great web site. And now can't print 12x 12. I know its not the printer..I think. Any suggestions before I give ALL my stuff away!!

Thanks for your time-

Patte

thats because 12x12 is not a standard size on any printer on the market right now..so you're probably confusing your printer..i know when i was using 12x12 paper and choosing the option of 13x19 it wouldnt print until i chose 11x17 paper i would choose and use 13x19 paper/option then try and print if you want 12x12 prints

It would be your printer options that is making the difference. In DIP you can just choose Exact size to print your file ( you dont need to type in 12x12).

You can absolutely print 12x12 on your 1280, as long as you have 12x12 paper to print on! When you go to print, choose Properties. On the main tab, change the media type to whatever type of paper you're printing on (if it's Epson's 12x12 Scrapbook paper, you need to choose Matte Paper - Heavyweight. Next, click on the Paper tab at the top. Under Paper Size, click on the drop down arrow and choose User Defined at the very bottom. Enter in the size of your paper (if you are printing on 12x12, enter in 1200 for the width and height - it is in .01 inches). Name it "Scrapbook" or "12x12" or whatever, and save. Then click ok. Now go and choose that paper from the list - it will be there from now on, at the bottom of the list. If you are printing on 12x12 paper, you will also need to go to the bottom where it says printable area, and choose Maximum and Centered (ignore pop up message by clicking ok).

Just so you know - the 1280 can NOT do a borderless 12x12 print, unless you are printing on 13x19 paper (if you're doing that, the size will be in the printer driver already, and your layout just needs to be sized to 12x12 - you will have to trim off the edges...). On the 12x12 paper, you'll get about a 1/8 inch margin all the way around, which you can choose to leave on, or trim off with a paper trimmer.

Epson does in fact have the R1800 that can do a borderless 12x12 print, and that size is built into the printer driver.
Hope that helps!

Thanks, Leigh. I, too, have been frustrated because I would have sworn I'd seen somewhere you could print borderless. I have a 1280 & did all the settings, but it still left the border (and I'm still getting a wider border on one edge). I've searched Epson's site & can't find any clues there. So, you are evidently right. Hope Epson puts out a new driver. I feel as if I wasted my money on the 12x12 paper, because the quality isn't as good as on the regular large-format photo paper. Live and learn!

Hi Kay,

You can print borderless, just not 12x12 (you can do 4x6, 5x7, 8x10, 8.5x11, and 11x14)! And unfortunately, printing borderless is a function of the printer, not the driver, so they can't just add the 12x12 borderless on. I've been able to trick it into printing borderless on 3 sides, but it always leaves a margin at the bottom. If you're getting an uneven margin, make sure you have "centered" checked - that should solve the problem!

I'm just curious - what kind of paper were you printing on before? The quality of the scrapbook paper is the same as Epson's enhanced matte professional paper. If you're printing on something with a glossy or semi-gloss finish, your pictures and layouts will usually look better (more saturated), but the longevity goes down dramatically, especially with the dye-based inks in the 1280...
