Need tablet opinions

I am looking at getting a tablet and need some opinions.

1) I am not sure what the difference is between the Wacom Intuos3 and the Wacom Graphire tablets.
2) I am not sure about size--of course I am thinking 4x5 because of price--what size do you have and are you happy with it?

TIA!!!!

I don't know what the difference between the two are... I have a graphire3 4x6 and I am very happy with it.. I don't find that I run out of room or anything...I really do love it and am so happy I got it

I had the intuos 1 and now have a graphire 2, the only difference between those models was that the intuos had little "buttons" on the top that you could set for macros or whatnot. 4x5 has been big enough for me with both models, though my drawing skills aren't that great anyway, it's more so just to help my fingers not trackpad so much. If you really want to draw something detailed you might want something bigger but you can always zoom in on your drawing too.

Also the older models show up on ebay (gotta get around to doing that with my intuos, sigh) so you could try looking there since price is a concern. I have no idea if they break, I doubt it, they're pretty simple.

I think Graphire should be good enough for scrapbooking

I have Graphire and I am happy with it. The higher end Intuos has better pressure sensitivity and larger surface. But I think unless you are literally drawing with the tablet, for photo manipulation and scrapbooking, Graphire should be sufficient.

Intuos is a professional tablet, and Graphire is the consumer version. Intuos has a lot more options, like you can set it be sensitive to pen tilt, angle, as well a pressure, and Graphire only has pressure.

Worth the cost difference? I don't think so, but if/when I ever design professionally, close to full-time many years in the future, LOL, I'll look into a really nice tablet. Hopefully by then the tablet monitors and PCs will have caught on and be cheaper than they are now.

So go for the Graphire. I've never run out of space on the 4x6. Unless you're doing huge, painterly strokes or need more sensitivity/density for detail work, that size is fine.

DH got the Intuos 6x8 for Christmas and I absolutely love it. I know a lot of people have said they had trouble getting used to it, but I took to it like a duck to water. That may have more to do with the fact that I've been a painter for a number of years and holding the pen just seemed more natural than the mouse for graphics in PSCS.

If it hadn't been a gift, I probably would love the graphire also.... just lucky to be spoiled by DH when it comes to my toys.

I also agree that if you're not sure, pick up a used one on ebay. You can always upgrade if you really like it.
