Zee, how frustrating! Sam Walton must have gotten into some copyright difficulties recently because I know that my friend Lynn (grandmalynnie) just had a very similar experience with Sam's Club!

I've started sending my work to whcc.com and I'm really happy with the quality and their service. PM me if you want to know more about them.

my suggestion is to go with someone like whcc.com but if you want to stick with walmart for whatever reason, find a photographers/artist release form online and take it with you with all your orders in case they ask for a release form.

pictures must be 75 years old!

I have had all kinds of problems with Sam's Club regarding photos that I took that they thought looked "professional." The pictures were 20 years old. They told me they didn't recognize my name as a professional photographer! Since the girl who said that was only about 25, I had some interesting things to say to her. I did get my photos but had to sign a form which they provided for me. This past weekend I went to copy a layout which involved a photograph of me at age four from 1951. They printed it, showed it to me and refused to give it to me because it was a studio photo. I asked them how they thought I would get a copy of this from the photogrpaher after 54 years. They told me that studio photos have to 75 years old before they can copy them. I'm through with Sam's Club. Their photos are the reason I joined the club. I'm going to see if they'll refund half a year of my membership! I'm going with Pattie's recommendation of whcc since she has been very happy.

Sorry to say, but it is true. Professional photographers and portrait studios hold the copyright on their images for 75 years according to Federal Copyright law. This is not store policy, rather Federal Law that is being followed...

I totally understand your frustration, but couldn't you just type up and sign a release?

Have you tried Walgreens? They let you upload your pictures online and you can pick up your pictures at a store.

For my 4x6 I mostly use Walmart. For everything else I use ezprints; however, I am going to open an account with WHCC.

Well, hmm. . . I've printed at our local Wal-mart and haven't had much problem- (unless you consider the time I went to get 8X10's and it took so long- but there were SOOOO many people around the counter an aisles around the photo center that it felt as if we were going to sink).

I didn't have any problem. I would bet that if you put your name next to the copyright and then could show them your driver's license you wouldn't have a problem. Or not include it at all.

Of course, I'm sure it depends on the individual wally world and the individual you speak to. I have to admit that I live in a small town. When they saw my 8X8 layouts cropped to fit an 8X10 perfectly, they were amazed.

I have used and lover the quality and service I have recieved from Mpix. They are also a professional lab, but it's a lot easier to set up an account with them and to send files than with WHCC. The prices are pretty good and the quality is great. So far, all my prints have look pretty close tyo what I see on my monitor.
