HELP! Scanned Images Problem

Hello:
A while back I scanned a bunch of "older" pictures from my grandmother into my computer. I saved them as JPG's. I am now trying to do some layouts using them however I can not. The problem is they are all now GIF's? How can they go from JPG's to GIF's? I am using PSE2 and when I try to move the pictures into my layouts I can not. I've also tried to "save as" but I am not able to save them as JPG's in PSE2. Anybody have any clues? Thank You.

What kind of error are you getting when you try to "Save as" JPG in PSE? You should be able to do this. I'm as confused as you are as to how your pictures would change from JPGs to GIFs unless you have a virus wrecking havoc on your computer.

I'm not sure why or how they would have been changed to gifs, but when I run into problems trying to drag a photo or element onto an image the problem is usually that they're both not in the same "mode". Make sure they're both RGB or Indexed, or Grayscale, or 8 vs. 16 bit etc. Hope that helps.

Thank You...

Thank you for all replying. I was playing around with them and realized that they are not in the same mode as the other things. They were in index mode instead of RGB mode. Once I change the mode I am able to resave them as JPEG's and then delete the GIF ones. Then I am able to move them into my layouts! It's funny though, I have a lot of other pictures that I have scanned into the computer and it's just these "older" (from the 1940's-50's) that this happened to. So, who knows. Maybe it has something to do with not having the original scanner hooked up anymore to the computer? Anyway, thank you again everyone for your replies.
