I need advice!

my old hp deskjet 812c is finally had it... well.. actually it's been dying a slow painful death for the last two years, and I finally convinced dh that we need a new one... here's my dilema... he's all for letting me replace with the printer I want, but I don't know what I want!!!! I want to be able to do 12x12 layouts, and I want something that isn't going to be an ink hog, and that I can find paper to print on that won't break my budget... Everything I've been reading says the canon i9900 is probably what I want.... but I just dont know! I'd hate to spend all that money and not be happy with the results! I need advice!

What printer do you reccomend?

Thanks in advance for th advice!

I bought the Canon after much research. I hear that a new Epson is going to hit the streets soon and it sounds like a dream but I don't know anything other than that. I have not used my printer enough to advise re ink usage but it does have separate cartridges which should keep costs down. It is not so easy to buy Canon paper but I have tested other papers and they are fine. I love love love love love my printer.

Thanks Nevermore... I'm also trying to see which is better in the long run... Do I buy a wide format printer like the canon i9900, and print up 12x 12s at home? or do I just get smaller printer for home use, and send my 12x12s out to someone to be printed? whcih will be cheaper in the long run? Also, how does the Canon with everyday printing, like documents and such? since we have limited deskspace what I get would have to be not just good for photos, but good for document type printing too....

I compromised!

I compromised! My 8.5x11 Epson died suddenly, so in an emergency (I was printing all the xmas gift albums), I went out and bought the $48 Canon i1500. It uses the same head technology as the Canon i9900, but only does 8.5x11. I cannot BELIEVE how great it prints, especially for the price! As good as my Epson. ANd I'm really picky.

For 12x12, I send out my files to whcc dot com. Their prices are $3.60 per page with free 2-day shipping.

FYI-

Epson Stylus Photo R1800

I just got this printer today as an early birthday present from my husband. I haven't used it to print a 12 x 12 yet, but the few test prints that I've run have been amazing. Up until now I've been doing everything in 8 X 8, and I can't wait to join the wide format world!

I know I am going to love printing with this.

I just bought an Epson 1280 which prints 12 by 12. Epson does have the paper but what is kewl about this printer is you can buy a roll of photo paper that is 13 inches wide. The upfront cost for the paper is quit steep as it is over a hundred dollars but when I figured it out it was going to cost me less per sheet than buying the individual sheets. The printer is fantastic and prints great quality. It also has a hundred dollar rebate which you can only find at the epson site but you can purchase the printer any where you like. It also prints borderless.
