how do you make prints? (I'm new)

I just finished my 2004 "traditional" scrapbook and would love to go 100% digital for this year's book. I have Paint Shop Pro 8.0 and feel confident that I'll be able to design layouts that I'm happy with eventually. (Famous last words?!)

My question pertains to printing - what do you all do? Print at home? And, if so, are you concerned about ink fading over time? Or do you go to professioanl printers? I saw a thread about printing at Costco. If I save my layout as a .jpg, will places like Costco print it - text, graphics, photos, background, and all??

YES! I save mine onto my photo card (just Save As and browse to that drive, just like writing to a floppy disk). Then take it to the store and pop it in.
Printing at home, the ink is not archval: yet. Pro printing is usually cheaper. You can also upload them to online printers and have them mailed to you.
JPG is just about the only version most printers will accept. Those layouts will be printed exactly like a photo, you'll be so pleased!

A great printer for home printing is the Canon i1500. It's ONLY $48, and uses the same head technology as the more expensive printers, and it prints great!!!. It is a little noisy, but who cares for $48. It can't do 12x12, so I have those printed at whcc dot com.

The printer (as 90% inkjet printers do) uses dye based inks, so it isn't technically 'archival'. But I worked in Kodak's inkjet printer division for 6 years, and we tested dye inks extensively. And basically, unless they are displayed in sunlight, the inks last a really long time. When stored in an album, an inkjet print can easily last 50+ years. (We did accelerated tests to prove this).

HOpe that helps,

Question printing

I am very new to digital scrapping. I do work on traditional scrapbooks. I was wondering if anyone actually prints their 12x12 digital pages at a 12x12 size? If so, where is the best place to get this done?

Thanks.
Pam

Since I'm still saving my $$ for a 12x12 printer....I upload my files to whcc dot com. They charge $3.60 per 12x12 page, which is way less than the $5 I was paying locally. Their prints are gorgeous! They only have a $12 minumum order, and UPS shipping is included.
