Question Scanning...help!

I have an Epson 1670 scanner. I am downsizing to 8 x 8 albums, thus, reducing my 12 x 12 HAND MADE layouts to 8 x 8. When I scan them in with my Scanner and print (HP DeskJet 952c), the printed page is fuzzy. I took one 12 x 12 to an copy center. I had the 12 x 12 reduced to an 8 x 8 on photo paper and a 24 wt. paper. They both look incredibly better than the one I scanned and printed. Is it my scanner or printer or both? I've scanned at 300 DPI and 600 DPI. Both are fuzzy. Is my equipment too old?
Thanks,
Cindy

Hi Cindy,

I want to make sure I'm understanding everything. You're scanning in your layouts, and when you print those at home they are fuzzy. But when you take the scanned layouts into the copy center (at this point they are digital files, right?), they print great. If that's the case, then the problem lies with your printer. On the other hand, if you mean that you're having the handmade layouts copied at the copy center, then the problem could be with the scanner (or both). If you want, you can send me the digital file and I might be able to see what the problem is. If it's fuzzy, you'll know when you view the scanned image in Photoshop (or whatever you're printing from).

300 dpi is plenty for scanning layouts, especially if you aren't enlarging. Are you using something other than the full-auto mode? At the top right of that scanner's driver, you can switch to Home Mode. Make sure you have "Photograph" selected, and that your output is the printer (not screen/web).

You should be scanning

Leigh...thanks for your help!

Leigh,
Thanks for your help!
Yes, I have scanned in the photograph mode 300dpi. I also scanned at a higher dpi but it was still fuzzy! Now, when I scan the photo copy from the copy center onto the scanner and print, it's less fuzzy.
The software for the scanner is from 2002. I think it's rather old.
However, can you email with your email address so I can send you a layout?
Thanks,
Cindy
