Question Buying a computer!

This is a duplicate post from another thread, but I am a beginner and I really need some help. I am loving digiscrapping, but am finding that my old pentium II 550 isn't quite up to handling all the graphics and Photoshop at the same time. I'd love to get a new computer that will let me do bang up scrapping and edit and compose my home videos.

I tend to lean toward Macintosh for their design and graphics capabilities. iPhoto, iMovie and iDVD make them pretty great too (IMHO) however I know that windoze machines are catching up to Apple in their handling of graphics software. (I was a yearbook advisor for 9 years and we used both platforms.......)

Any recommendations? I also run a home based business and need to be able to do my "paperwork" on the computer. My thoughts run towards a Mac for my scrapping, internet, video, music, etc and getting an inexpensive laptop for my home business (would be nice to take to parties and such for orders).

I'm open to ideas and thoughts on this topic! Your help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Get the Mac

G'day chellouise,

I recently purchased a G5 and I don't know why I didn't purchase a Mac early both myself ( a web designer ) & my hubby ( in the tech industry ) are computer junkies in the mid of 2004 I got a brand new P4 with 1GHZ of ram which as has two 40G hard drive with a flywire card it had the works .....Still had problems with Photoshop CS and editing home movies( I could stream footage and when I tired to do any with them eg.put a title on first off it would have to think about it for 10 mins then crash) with a machine with those sec's it shouldn't and that was also using windows Longhorn.

Since purchasing the Mac I couldn't be happier. I also brought virtual PC for Mac which allows you run any windows based programs on the mac which comes in handy.

I've formatted the PC as it's great to do my fax's, invoices ( I also work from home ) I have my wireless broadband hooked up to a home network which means that the mac the pc and the laptop can all be on the net all at the same time. If you want to ask more asks you can email me.

Mac Fanatic here!

I have only owned Macs and I am a HAPPY CAMPER!! I do own a Dell computer, but say that I only own Macs b/c Macs are the only ones I use!! I only bought the Dell for two programs and I hardly use it. I too have a G5 and can't recommend it enough. The integretation of all the iApps including now iWork (which is compatible with Word docs) is EXCELLENT!!!!

I have given hardware/software advice before so if you want to you can just look up my old posts.

Happy Mac Shopping!!

hmm.. i'm not sure if you noticed.. but most of the advice / topics/ tutorials/ software etc.. on these sites are for PC based machines. Given the relatievely high price of macs (why oh why they disallow competition is beyond me!), I would go the PC route. You can buy a very very good pc for about $400 these days.. good luck!

Ok.. if you know nothing about computers except how to scrapbook on them.. then.. buy a PC from dell or gateway. They offer some good PC's with tested hardware for prices that aren't too bad. I mean, for $600, you can get a great PC: 2.8 ghz with 1GB ram and an 80GB 7200 HD. Use your current monitor and speakers. You even get a free CD burner and free shipping. Stay away from BestBuy emachines, Wal-mart specials and other "discount" store PC's from compaq or HP. You might save $100 or so.. but you'll regret it later.

Hopefully you'll read this post (seems to be a real lack of people following up on their posts lately) and use this advice. Just go to www.dell.com and check it out (I even configed one here: http://configure.us.dell.com/dellsto...c=D30PF2&s=dhs

Good lUCK!asdffa
