Weeks 14-15

This challenge will take place from 16th until 30th of October. This time let's travel to the Himalayan mountains and find a small country of Nepal with its funny shaped flag and colourful heritage. Nepal is the 12th poorest country in the world yet it has got beautiful spirit, its beliefs and beautiful traditions. The art and culture of Nepal are and always have been strongly influenced by the religious beliefs of the country. The artwork is decorative, delicate and very beautiful. Nepal art is strongly influenced by the culture of the people and the two really go together and are interwoven. The two most typical forms of art are that of paintings and sculptures. Nepal art and culture has changed little over the centuries though western influences are slowly starting to affect some modern artists.

My first associative memory connected with Nepal was reading a book 15-maybe 20 years ago. It was a book about the live Goddess and from what I heard this beautiful yet appalling tradition still goes on even now. I will try and make a LO about it as a personal challenge, and here is an image to inspire you hopefully. Please, whether you are someone who has travelled with us before, or never travelled to our Geographically Challenged destinations, take this mysterious enchanting place Nepal, look it up and see if anything, a sight, a story or the shape or colour, an image inspires you to create, remember you don't have to have any previous knowledge of the place, and your LO created doesn't have to be ABOUT the place, thanks for playing, I hope you will!!!

Please remember to upload to our gallery here!

I've just found an amazing source for inspiration. It's a website selling handwoven fabrics from Nepal:

Here is my take on the challenge, telling a bit more about Kumari ritual/or is it tradition, anyway here it is. I am off on holiday myself, but I will leave a link for everybody for the Halloween kit, and hope to see you in November. Have a nice time everybody, and yes, you will have more time Diana, Nepal will last until November 13th, I should upload a new one then. Please let me know where you would like to go?! I will try and accomodate you soon.
