I was wondering why...........

Scrapbooking elements are so large? I'm new to scrapbooking, well, actually I just love to create. So, I've always wanted to try making some scrapbook elements. But why do they have to be so big? Is this normal? can they be used if made smaller?

Anyway, I just like making graphics, usually for others to use. I tried making some alphas. Did I do these right? Please someone clue me in on proper size and distribution of pages, tags, elements and what not.

Hmmm, what do you think?

That looks like a great alpha!

I don't know too much about creating graphics or sizes.. but my guess is they have to be 300 dpi in order to print well, so that ups the size for sure.

Well, duh, I hadn't thought of that, lol. And it has to be at least 300dpi? Hmm.

Devi, your alpha looks great. I love the glassy look it has !!

Here are the SBB guidelines for anyone who wants to share their element creations on SBB.

the size doesn't have to necessarily be

"that" large... once finalized.

except maybe with papers(12x12" at 300ppi - so 3600x3600), but you can save these as .jpgs once completed, and that brings it back down a bit in size...

An alpha like you showed us... can be created at 3/4" diameter at 300ppi...which is about the size IRL(in real life)... that way for those who print their lo's and use 12x12... they will have a good quality LO printed IRL.

Other items like photo mats, frames, or elements would just need to be made with that same thought process in mind. What size would/should it be IRL? Make it at that size in your program at 300ppi, and it's perfect for those who do print out their LO's.

I know on the alphas... a lot of people save them all on one sheet in .png format... this makes the file size considerably smaller for alphas and numbers.

HTH!

I think an alpha you would want to save as .png so that it has a transparent background as .jpg do not have transparent backgrounds. IMO
