You have heard of dumb and dumber...

My contribution! I just got a Canon wide format printer and for my birthday I got 100 sheets of 11 x 17 paper (they couldn't find 12 x 12). Okay, fine, I can do some 10 x 10 stuff no problem. My question that will probably shock and appall many is how do people cut their stuff down? Do you use an exacto knife? scissors? a paper cutter? Is there some nifty gizmo I have never heard of? (crossing fingers and hoping this is so since I am not particularily adept at any of three above). I would appreciate feedback on people's weapon of choice. I will concentrate on that and hope to gain some manual dexterity given that I have 100 sheets to practice with!

Me - exacto knife and board. I always print aligned to left and bottom so I only have to cut along top and right.

I use a large Fiskars paper cutter for the most part. When I had to cut down all my Christmas cards this year, I even put a piece of tape on the paper cutter so that I could just bump the cards up against that and know it was lined up in the right spot then whack away. LOL

I've also used a rotary cutter, ruler and cutting mat. That works pretty well for me but I'm a closet quilter. LOL In other words I have tons of fabric in my closet but can't find time to use it.

HTH and HAPPY BIRTHDAY, my feathered friend!

Thank you Awesome Aussie and Fox-Myers. It took me 30 minutes to figure out how the heck to get the picture at the bottom of the sheet (!) but could not possibly post that question (I draw the line at lazy!). So, will take to work tomorrow and try paper cutter there and will go at lunch to Staples and grab exacto knife.

Speaking of closets, have a feeling all of mine are going to end up wallpapered in 11 x 17 posters-- I only have so much primo wall space...

Not a dumb question. I actually have a regular sized printer and so I choose to create 8x8 LOs. I taught elementary school for many years and I have a paper cutter that has been used and used and used for so many things, but believe it or not I actually cut my LOs with a really good pair of scissors now just 'cause I like looking at my work while I cut around it. So don't feel silly about whatever way you choose. How exciting that you have an oversized printer. Do you love it?

It's funny that you posted this thread. I bought the Canon i9900 and some 13x19 paper and printed out 2 layouts as soon as I got the printer 'cuz I was so excited. Never occurred to me that I had no way of cropping the excess off! I had a 12" paper trimmer from my paper-scrapping days but that didn't help me here. I couldn't believe how amazed I was at myself for never even thinking about this issue. I went out the next day and bought a 15" Carl Professional Rotary Trimmer at Staples. Works perfectly.

Soooo jealous of the wide format printer. That's something for my list to Santa next Christmas.

I usually use either my guillotine (old fashioned office type) or a craft knife and metal ruler when I have any trimming to do.

Thank you all--I have never heard of a rotary cutter before so something to check out (could this be the miracle gadget?)

Yes, I do love my wide printer so far (I have printed only six things). My goal for 2005 was to print out all my old layouts and to fix them up if they needed it. Most of my stuff is just on my hard drive. Until recently, didn't think people would have any interest in seeing my stuff. The printer was my gift to myself for taking on this hobby and struggling like a mad woman with it. Since May I have taken eight classes--2 in my old program (PSP), 1 in photography, 3 in scrapbbooking and 2 in my new program (PS). I won't tell you how many textbooks I have bought. I feel like I have reached a new "point" on my learning curve where I am more interested at this time in getting some of the technical details refined--dotting i's and crossing t's and all of the stuff that I just ignored in my initial joy at filling up a piece of paper. I am amazed at the hard copies--some of the stuff looks absolutely fantastic and I just didn't notice how well it worked when looking at the monitor and some of the stuff that looks pretty darn good on the monitor just doesn't look that good at full size, full resolution. So, a new direction for a while.

Sorry for the long reply but Fox-Myers can attest that the Raven is verbose!
