Water on printouts

I created my Christmas cards using HP Holiday Photo Cards. They look fine, but today a few drops of water spilled on one and it took the ink COMPLETELY off the paper! I was surprised. I'm using an HP Photosmart printer. Is this normal for digital printouts?

Thanks for your help,
Karen

I think this is normal for inkjets. I don't know of any paper/ink combo that is water resistant.

Epson Durabrite Ink

"Superior resistance to water, fading and smudging". I chose Epson because of their Durabrite Inks. I just finished running a print under the faucet and then wiping it dry. Still looks great!

As far as I know...

the only printer that doesn't do that that is an inkjet printer are the Epsons...

I think though it has to do with a combination of using an Epson printer with Epson inks on Epson Papers...

I have an old Epson Photo 875DCS I've had for about 4 years now, back when they were $400... Imagine what I could have now(large format wise-lol) but I use the inks that are made for that printer and Epson double sided Matte paper every year for Christmas Cards/Postcards, and tested these the first year I made them by soaking the final copy in a sink of water... Other than the fact that it was a little warbled(the paper that is) the print had not changed one bit, as far as color or running, etc...

There's a lot of extra info out there through Wilhelm-Imaging-Research. link as follows: http://www.wilhelm-research.com/
They are the ones to listen to (imo) as they test all the archive stuff for the major museums and libraries, etc... They give you the down-low on all types of printers, inks, papers, etc

That's my 2 cents worth, HTH!

my thoughts

I actually think it matters what paper you are printing on. I have a Canon I9100. I just assumed I would always have the water running issue. But just recently I have been able to get inks to not run when water spilled on. I have been using the Red River papers. I have no idea if all their papers are this way but a few I have tried have held up for me. Not sure if this would be true for Epson printers - but I am happy with it on the Canon. I also have read that dura brite inks are water proof - I don't have an Epson printer so can't test this - but would guess that ink wouldn't be as picky about what paper you could use.

You may want to try the following for things you already have printed:

Krylon Preserve It spray
