A productive evening...

I have been having a productive evening so far! (Although it is getting quite late and I should go to bed, I am on a roll....and have more gifts to finish!). Check out the coasters I made for my sister in law in my gallery . I would love your comments

Anyone else having as much luck as me? There are probably TONS of Christmas gifts on the go these days....

I saw your coasters, great idea BTW! I guess I am clueless and not crafty ... how are you creating these coasters?

thanks! I found some blank cork coasters at JYSK for 99 cents for 6. So I bought 2 packs, split them up, and am making 3 sets of 4.
It took some trial and error, but I think I have got a good method down now. I just scrapped a round (or whatever shape - I acutally bought some square ones too) measuring just a bit smaller than the coaster itself (I like the cork border and I think it the overlap is helping the paper stick). I am printing the images out on plain paper, letting it dry well (20 minutes). Then (this was the tricky part) I have a mixture of white glue and water (about half and half) which I paint onto the coaster, then I put the paper down on the coaster, and then paint it with VARNISH. The one I am using is a Delta Ceramcoat Exterior/Interior Matte varnish, (it says super-tough polyuerethane, too). I got this big bottle for about $15 a long time ago. The first layer on TOP of the paper needs to be the varnish - the glue mixture makes the ink run. (It took me a while, but I figured out where those little black dots on my nephews face came from!!!! YUCK!). I am doing a few layers of varnish and glue stuff on top of that as it dries.
I will probably put a tag on them to recommend not using them for hot drinks....as I am not sure if it will hold up or not. I dont want them to melt.
Hope that helps, and thanks for looking!
Onto set #4! YES it has been a great evening. Maybe I will finally head to bed and do set 4 in the morning. I will have to post the other sets later too...

Ok...I am really going to bed now. I have posted the 2nd set of coasters (well actually the 3rd set, but only the 2nd set that I posted - first set was not inspiring and not worth posting). I am feeling chatroom withdrawl so I am setting my alarm for the later morning show! LOL. see you then!

Love your coasters Melissa. I did something similar for myself a while back using some of the free CD's that always seem to appear in the post I laminated the images with a Xyron and stuck them to the CD's.
