great idea!

here's mine... I know its a little off kilter (on purpose) and the one square seems oddly sized (but it too was on purpose)... so i'm not surprized it didn't get comments (remember the golden rule).. but I thought the pictures were really sharp and they'd at least get a comment... nope.

Here's mine:

First Time at the Beach

Okay, so it has one comment, but it was from my sister so I don't think it counts.

I find it hard to keep up with all the uploads. There are so many and so fast is why I believe a lot of them get missed.

LOL, Cara! Sure, your sister's comment counts! I depend on my mother to make a comment, just so I'll have at least one post per LO!

Rob, some months ago someone started a thread (perhaps Cardee? Sorry, I just can't remember) promoting a comment for every lo that had no comment. This thread was huge and popular. I tried to do a couple every day but eventually had to cry uncle. I have only been a member since May but the number of layouts that get posted seems to have exploded exponentially. At this point in time, I no longer post anywhere else but here but even so, it is daunting to look at everything new (posts and los) and view/read much less comment--never mind finding time to actually do some los!

My etiquette is a somewhat modified version of Kindera's. I don't comment if the lo already has a few and I have nothing new to add. I don't comment if I have nothing of substance to say (with the odd exception). I do try to comment on every lo posted in connection with any particular challenge or scrap I am doing. I do try to make my comments be specific and focussed--what really grabs me about any lo.

I like your idea of shameless self promotion but I would hate anyone to get the idea that a lo has no comments because no one likes it. People should take some heart from views even without comments--it caught someone's eye and they took the time to look longer. I also think it is important to deposit in the karma bank--if everyone posted say 5 comments to noncomment los for every one noncomment layout that they have I dare say with over 14,000 members that that would be the end of the non-comment los.

P.S. to a long post. You can readily find non comment layouts by searching the least popular or least active. I strongly suspect that some of these people are not "active" given the dates of the layouts and the number of layouts and comments that they have made. This suspicion was the main reason I gave up on the prior thread and resolved to start at the "other end" so to speak by trying to view new layouts on a fairly regular basis and commenting there. That resolution has been severely tested by the sheer volume of layouts.

Great idea for a thread! I went to my gallery and sorted by the least popular and only had two los that didn't have any comments, but a whole bunch of them with only one That I thought should have had lots! lol

But here is my 0 comment LO Balloons I was so proud of this LO cause it was the first one I did making my own stiching.

Wow

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm a little taken aback by the response to this. What I've learned is that when you have a layout that has zero or just a very few comments, don't take it hard. There could be any number of factors that have nothing to do with the quality of the layout. From this thread, I've seen layouts go from zero comments to twenty in one day! And they're not fake comments. People just miss the layouts because so many are being posted as the popularity of this site and this hobby increases.

I totally agree with the few people who have made mention that you really oughta comment as much as you can on other people's work, because, let's face it, we all love it when people comment on our own work. Why else would we post it for everyone to see? I don't see it as fishing for compliments or any kind of detraction from someone's character to post these layouts with the expectation that you're going to get a few pats on the back. This world would be a much better place to live if every community we're invovled in was unashamidly complimentary.
