Picasa or Photoshop Album?
As you can download the starter edition of PS Album for free too, I was wondering which one would you prefer to use? Picasa or Photoshop Album?
Is it just as easy to add tags in both programs? Have you come across major problems using either one?
How can I make an album for my fonts in Picasa, it doesn't want to show .ttf files?
Thanks!

Hmmm I haven't ever heard of Picasa, but I like its name! I can't answer your question, but would be very interested in learning if it can do that. I think for fonts, you will need a separate font organizer program. There are several free ones out there if you just do a search.

fonts in picasa
I too am researching a way to get organized, so I'll be interested in the replies you get.
I don't use Picasa, but I have 2 ideas for viewing fonts in it.
Easy way: there may be somewhere in preferences or settings to edit which file types it can view. This would be easy, but probably won't work.
Harder way: in your graphics program type up a sample of your font and save as a .jpg
This should work fine, but would be time consuming to do each font. It might be easier to just use a font organizer for your fonts.

I bought PS Album after trying the free version and it is really good, but I have just downloaded Picasa and I really like that too and find I'm using that more than PS Album. I had some problems with PS Album not importing some images because they were too large. I haven't had any problems with Picasa at all. It is easier to add tags in PS Album but you can use keywords for your files in Picasa which is almost as good.
Why not try them both since PS Album is also free for the starter version and see which one you prefer?
You can't view fonts in Picasa unless you do as mikajomc suggested. I use The Font Thing for organising my fonts and think its the best of the ones I've tried. You can get it for free on the resources part of DaFont or just do a Google search and you'll find other places to get it.

Beware...
Just since this has been brought up a few times in the last couple of days...
I checked into the differences between the PhotoShop Album starter edition, that came free with my PSCS, and I think you can also dl the starter edition free at adobe's site. Someone mentioned a few days back that PhotoShop Album could save the keywords when you backed up your files onto a CD...
I've discovered this is true of the full paid $50 version(on sale now for $40), but not true of the PhotoShop Album Started Edition(Free)... So, I decided to wait to name/punch in all those keywords in there until I buy the full version, as I really don't want to do all that work twice...
I have a tons of picture files on my PC I want to back up... I'm ashamed I haven't done it in a long time(about 3 months)... I just loved the idea of the fact that was mentioned when we typed in the keywords and backed it up, that all of that was also saved attached to the file, in case we ever lost all of those pix files, the keywords were already there again, and we wouldn't have to retype them in.
As far as the Font Organizer... I use to have a couple programs that did this, but then discovered one of the newer CK upgrades to CK Fresh Fonts w/Organizer would allow the CK program to keep up with all my fonts in 4 catagories(Installed, Stored, Cataloged, not installed), and then I can view them right there within the program... So that's a free option if you already had that CD... If I think of the name of the 2 programs, I'll repost...

Thanks everyone for your replies!
Jordan, in the settings the ttf format isn't listed, I already looked at that And I thought about your suggestion of making samples too, but I have too many fonts already and too little time...
I guess I'll have to download a font organiser then, though I'd prefer it if I could organise it all in one.
i started using Picasa a while back, and I think I'll just stick to it. I don't know if the keywords (tags) are kept with the files when you make a back-up on dvd though? Anyone know?
Thanks!

I use Photoshop Album for my pictures and elements, and I use The Font Thing for my fonts. It allows me to catagorize my fonts (script, printing, childrens, holidays) .... you name the catagories that you want to use, they aren't pre-determined.
Here is the description from their page "The Font Thing is a Free program for managing TrueType fonts in Windows. With The Font Thing you can: Browse installed and uninstalled TrueType fonts, Browse fonts in subfolders as a single combined list, View sample text and individual characters in your choice of colours, Change sample text "on the fly" or easily switch between your own standard text samples, Print font samples, Associate notes with fonts, Install or uninstall any number of fonts, and much more."

Hey guys a questions about picasa - can you drag and drop easily into your graphics programs for editing? Or maybe my question should be how do I get my images into pse from picasa? I also read about some of the picasa gripes, and there is a problem with some of the sub-directory naming - have you seen that happen? Thanks!
