How do I calibrate printer/monitor?

I have a sony comp /monitor and a epson printer,when I print it comes out alot darker than on the screen does .Is there a way to calibrate the printer/montior so that my prints come out nicer?any help would be apprecaited ,Becky.

if you use Photoshop...

there is a built in monitor calibrator...

it would have been installed in your control panel(on a PC), and it's called "Adobe Gamma" you just double click and it walks you through a wizard. It's not perfect, since it tends to help you make more generic adjustments, but it helped me....

There are other tools and programs you can buy, but they can get expensive($75-200) if you want it perfect...

When you do run this wizard be sure to rename it(the new profile) with something like your monitor name and the date, so the profile you create will be obvious to you, and not override the one that it already loaded...

that's my minimum knowledge(lol) as I just did this recently... I read a lot of different things, just from doing a google search, and it gets very complicated.... but the easy way was the Adobe Gamma built in thing for me...

The epson site has good infromation on how to do thsi specifically for epson printers . Check there
