When you say you tag them by colour or element do you rename the individual files? I don't want to start this and discover I have made a mess, so an example would help a lot - yup, I need the "idiots" guide!!

Thanks in advance.

Jules

jules so funny at 5:08 in the morning first laugh of the day:
love these questions
am learning a lot from this stroage one, I have been storing the kits like they say but just can't figure out what they mean print picture and have a catalog, that would be great if I understood
do you all mean print the sample, and make sort of an album of the pictures.
if so that is a lot of paper waste for a small picture, am I not understand this part.

I cannot help Jules, I don't understand that either and I am hoping that someone could please enlighten us.

As for the catalog. Yes, I actually print out the pictures on paper and save them in a regular file. I print 6 previews per 8x11 page and have the print settings on "every day" quality. Compared to my dd and dh's paper waste, I consider my system not very wasteful.

HTH,
Jana

My understanding of "tagging" is using an album or library program to assign keywords to elements (much like you do when you upload a layout to SBB). I use Digital Image Library. It is basically a searchable database of my scrapbook elements. I assign each element keywords (such as baby, pink, striped, paper) that describe the element . Then I can go to the Library program and do a search for everything that is pink or everthing that is pink paper or everything that is striped and pink. Etc., etc.! (Kind of like a Google search!) In Digital Image Library (and I would assume in other programs such as Photoshop Album) I can make up my own keywords. It is a wonderful tool. It allows me to mix and match from different kits without scanning through folders or printouts.

Good luck! I hope this helps clear up the confusion.

Kristi

To put 6 pictues on one page I go in my Word program and import the jpg. files I want to print. I arrange 4-6 of them on the page. I also print front and back page to save paper.

I don't know if there is another way of doing it. I might be doing it the hard way, but this is the only way I know.

I don't have a digital library program (at least not that I know of, LOL). I am using MS Digital Image Pro 10.

When you bought DIP 10 did you buy DIP Suite or just DIP? If you bought DIP Suite (which I think is the most common) then you have Digital Image Library. Check it out. It is great!

I have found that creating a folder with the name of the person that created the elements/paper works the best for me. Once I reach 700 mb I burn everything onto CD and then in PSP7 I can browse the folder and print thumbnails. I think put these hard copies (which I print at the lowest print level to save ink) in a big binder by CD number.

I found that doing them seasonally, or type of element made it hard to remember what items went with which papers kwim? So, I keep all kits together.

I was able to gain control of 5 yrs worth of images and photo's on my computer with the free program Picasa.
I have giga bytes of files, I was able to view which folder they were in and then physically go and retrieve them and put them in order.
This helped me so much it was the only way that allowed me to transfer all those files to my new computer in a organized manner!!

It is also great for DSB as I can physically keep all my elements in thier correct folder on my computer, but while viewing them in Picasa I can move them (tags, brads, fabrics) into their own collection.
