LET'S PARTICIPATE SBB! OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD!
Hi all!
I know most of us would like to find ways to get our family and children involved with the spirit of "giving" at the holidays. Our church does this every year, and my kids get SO excited about doing this. It involves filling a shoe box with things that most of us "take for granted" but other parts of the world don't have. We usually go to the dollar store, and put as much as we can into the box. You need to write a $5 check to help with the cost of shipping, and that's it. You can find drop off locations with the zip code finder. The rewards are enormous. An underprivledged child gets a wonderful Christmas, and you get to know that it was because of you, and a little bit of your time and money. Anyway, just thought some of you might be interested in participating. Here's the link with all of the info. needed. If you do this, please post here, and let us know. I'd love to know! Thanks! Let's set a goal of at least 100 boxes! Most of us do at least two boxes. I have two children, and each of them do a box. There are three age groups to choose from. My son does a boy his age, and my daughter does a girl her age. That would only be 50 families, and there are tons of us on this site! We can probably get WAY more than 100, but we'll start small for our first year. Next year we'll do more!!!!! PLEASE, PLEASE PARTICIPATE! You'll feel so good, and you'll make some children so happy! If you do this, PLEASE take a photo of you and your family with your boxes, and hopefully we can post them here on the site! Thanks in advance. Let's show the world what an AMAZING group we have here at SBB!!!!!! I'm so excited to see how many boxes we can donate!

Kristie is so awesome! She gave us a forumn and gallery to discuss things about Operation Chrsitmas Child. It's under digital crafts. Here are the links:

LET ME ASK AGAIN! IF YOU DO THIS, PLEASE POST A FAMILY PHOTO IN OUR FAMILY GALLERY, AND BE SURE TO POST HOW MANY BOXES YOUR FAMILY CONTRIBUTED. OUR GOAL IS TO HAVE SBB CONTRIBUTE 100 BOXES. THANK YOU SO MUCH IN ADVANCE FOR PARTICIPATING!

Let's Participate!!
I'm already doing this, Cardee, and just wanted to second your plea. I heard about this on the radio last year. It was an interview with twin 9 year old girls that had been adopted from Russia the year prior. They were talking about how the previous Christmas they had each received a box while living in the orphanage. One of the girls told how she had asked God for a pair of red mittens, and low and behold there were a pair of red mittens in her box. It gave me goosebumps!
I have a daughter from Russia, and by the grace of God she isn't one of those children that are still in the orphanage, but it still touches me greatly. It seems like such a small thing to do for the many children that don't have homes or mommys and daddys that love them.

AWESOME Jodi! It's so exciting! REally it's an AMAZING program. I'd love to do this yearly here at SBB, and get tons of people to participate. They are trying to get 7 million boxes donated this year. We can make a dent it that number!
We're going to have an Operation Christmas Child photo gallery, so we can post pictures of our families with our boxes, before we drop them off. It'll be so fun to see how many we can get to participate, and the actural photos of everyone!
I believe the drop off week is Nov. 15-22, so we have to get packin' those boxes! We're going to do ours this week! Woo-Hoo!

YES!
We did this last year, and my two boys (age 4 & 6) were so impressed. I was very proud of them.
We took photos of them with the boxes they prepared before we took them to the church.
Around Christmas time, we made some of the photos into an ornament for each of them, planning to remember on Christmas day.
Of course, in the chaos of the morning, *I* forgot to pull down the two ornaments with the photos. Partway through the morning, my six year old stopped opening gifts and said out of the blue, "Mommy, I'm glad we made those boxes for the boys so they can have a nice Christmas too."
It's an easy way to get the kids involved in giving. BTW, the dollar store is GREAT for small items. More items in the shoe box is more impressive for the kids -- both givers and receivers -- than one or two larget things. Raid your craft supplies .... stickers, markers, all that is so welcome by the children.
Great idea!

I've done this for the past few years this side of the Atlantic too It really is a great thing to do and for all the UK members - It is usually announced in the local press, and on local TV and radio news where the collection points are going to be and what the deadline is so no excuses
