The tutorial section has fabulous tutorials about creating realistic layouts. I'm not sure if it's still there, but there used to be one that walked you through step by step in creating a layout. There was a class in the School of Scrap taught by Tanya that was great in showing how to use shadows, etc., to look like a paper page. Maybe you can still purchase lesson, check the store section. But definately check the tutorial section, they helped me tremendously with Photoshop! Good luck and have fun!!

School of Scrap is just starting to ramp up for its next session, so right now there is only one new class to signup for. More classes will be opening soon though!

I'm not sure what happened the "creating your first LO in PS" tutorial, but I can give you some basic info on drop shadows. Under Layer Styles you have a selection of Drop Shadows available to use. Play with them and see what you think looks most realistic. I like to use Low drop shadows and I usually reduce the size to around 8-13 for small flat things. Once you're applied Layer Styles you can change their appearances by clicking on the little "f" next to the layer name in the layer palette and playing with the settings that appear in the new menu. The bigger and/or fatter the element is in your LO, the bigger the drop shadow you want to use for a more realistic look.

HTH!

I found this thread

Step-by-step tutorial: creating a LO

I didn't read through it all, but it looks like it might be helpful.
