Question What is brushwork?

Hi,
I'm new to digital scraping. After looking at some of the amazing layouts here a common quote I see is "great brushwork". What are brushes and or brushwork. In my case, I'm learning with Photshop 6.0.
Thanks in advance!
Jolyn

Brushes can be used in Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro and can be likened to a "stamp" as in the image you get from ink and a rubber stamp. In Photoshop you select the brush tool in your tools palette and load the brush you want to use (which is often saved in your Program Files> Adobe> Adobe Version>Presets> Brushes folder and Photoshop is installed with some). Then you set to work. Some brushes are great used as stamps while other you can actually digitally paint with. You can open your brushes palette under Windows and change the properties of your brush such as rotation and size. There are tonnes of free brushes out there to downlaod - Do a search in the forums for links. They are also easy to make but I would start small and use the one already available. You will see brushwork in patterned papers and collage or montage layouts. HTH!

Question thanks!

Now I'm giving brushes a try. Can the size of the brush be changed?

Yes, by using your brush palette (go to Wondow and make sure brushes are checked) You can can change all kinds of properties in the brush palette such as rostating, changing size, flipping the brush horiz or vertical, spacing etc. You can also change the size by adjsuting the slider and changing the pixel width of your brush in the top tool bar.
