I have a question in light of the BasicGrey thread

I often look through the gallery for ideas when I scrap. I can make just about anything I see, but have zero creativity to come up with layouts! In fact, just yesterday I took inspiration from one of Michelle24's layouts. I recreated styles of paper and made it my own. But, it was a layout she made from one of her own layout kits that is for sale at another site. Should I not do what I did? Am I infringing on her work?

Just curious, because I am so in love with all the work I see here, and would like to make a layout of everything!

Thanks so much!!

I think if we *KNOW* that we used another layout or paper pattern as inspiration, that it would be a good idea to include an "Inspired by:" note.

However, I think this whole lawsuit thing is a bit out of hand. I've never SEEN Basic Grey, but if I happen to make some paper that LOOKS like theirs, are they going to send me a nasty note too? How do you prove you haven't seen something. Lol....

I agree. I came up with what I thought was an original pattern a few months ago for a Christmas set that I will release later this year. Turns out that I have seen the same pattern more than once since. I think it's quite conceivable that people can come up with similar color schemes and patterns on their own. I think it is a little out of hand, and with the popularity of the "shabby" look right now, I guess Basic Grey will be filing lots of law suits in the near future

We could be really childish and try to copy all their papers and post them here. JUST KIDDING! But after reading that unprofessional letter, that is what I felt like doing!
