From what I understand you should avoid:
You never want to have your pictures in contact with PVC plastics, so if the plastic container is made with PVC, you'll want to avoid it. Look for items that are PVC-free and archival quality too.
When labeling photos, it is better not to write on them. But if you must, use photo-safe, acid-free pens or pencils.
And I thought I read somewhere that you should not store photos with wood or cardboard (normal cardboard, not scrapping kind) because of the fumes from the paint/stain/sealer. But what about picture frames?? hmmmm Might have to look that one up!
I use a acid free expandable file folder to store/organize my photos in plastic baggies (pvc free, check first each brand is different) until I can get them in an album that is.
