Kajikit-

If you're asking for help and ideas for improvement and you're just getting "Gee, your LO is good", it's probably really is good. I always seem to have an idea for other things to try on a LO, but I realize that everyone tastes are different and my ideas just might not work with their style of scrapping.

The other thing is if you really want CC post to the forums and say that you really need advice on a LO and provide a link. I always try to take a peak at these LOs and offer my 2 cents or more. LOL

Personally I really try not to offer unsolicited advice. Each of us is scrapping for our own enjoyment and to our own tastes. I'm not going to be the SB police and go out there and tell you all what you can or cannot do on you LO.

I was a member of a photography message board/gallery, and boy are they tough! If something was just a bit out of focus you would know (maybe that is because it was mostly males? they seemed to be the biggest critics there! not trying to be offense, that is just true)
I wouldn't offer advice, I don't know what I am doing half the time
If it said CC that would be great invitation to comment.I will have to start putting that on some of mine that are a bit ??
I haven't seen that many bad layouts here anyway, everyone has their own taste and skill level.

Well fyi - I never lie in my posts. It's against my nature to lie. Not that I never do in life...that would be one right there LOL. But generally speaking, I don't say anything I don't mean, even in a post. I have been known to be overly optimistic and rosey lol, but anyway... I won't say I like something if I don't.

Talking

Mmn, this is a "hottie". If you are viewing a LO that has caught your eye in the gallery and it has a "comments, please" added then I don't see anything wrong with giving your honest opinion - stating that it is ONLY your opinion - often I sit and look at a LO I have done, knowing its not quite right but not knowing how to alter it. People don't ask for comments if they don't want them. However, I would not offer advice on a LO if the poster hasn't asked.

As for the technical stuff, well, I hate to see photos sized to fit the page and the proportions all wrong/skewed. I pondered on "should I tell " when I saw someone doing this and ended up not telling - even though they are much more experienced now it still happens. Who am I to criticise/comment??

I am very critical of my own work and would not wish to offend anyone by doing it to them.

However I would rather have no comments than a comment that wasn't meant - what's the point in pretending you like something if you really don't!

Jules

Even though I would really like to leave suggestions/CC on other layouts, I usually do not as I've discovered the stereotypical sensitive artist temperament often occurs amongst scrappers, paper and digital alike.

Just had to jump in again - LOL...

had to comment on leaving comments (praise)...

I LOVE to browse the gallery and look at EVERY single LO and almost always do...I also LOVE to leave comments and do quite regularly and cannot imagine being dishonest about a LO...here's my take...even though most (or at least alot) pages I see are NOT my style...and probably not even something that I would or COULD create...I can ALWAYS find something that I like/love about it...whether it is a photo, color scheme, design, element, title, journaling - whatever. I truly think I learn a little something from each page I see! I hope that everyone else does, too! I think alot of times...we seem to only look at LO's that we would create ourselves...but what's the fun in that? LOL We are all "artists" and have unique styles - that's what makes SBB such a wonderful place. Still - I would NEVER leave a critique or criticism unless it was clearly solicited...even then I would be over-the-top nice about it as we are all a little insecure/vulnerable when opening ourselves up to others...

Thanks for listening to my ramble Have a great day!

I think that once you post a layout for comments you are open to pats on the back as well as critique. That is not to say you can't say it in a constructive way. There is nothing wrong with pointing out something good and pointing out something that may end up being helpful for the person.
I know that I am always looking for suggestions, and personally I am sometimes dissappointed that all I got were 3 "pats on the back" when perhaps someone could have left a comment that would make it pop.
I didn't read the whole thread, but just the first few posts. Do you all just post here for pats on the back or to learn? I post to learn. I can't be the only one.
I have belonged to a very critical yet helpful photography site for 2 years now, so I guess I am used to it though.
