PSP8 Overlay - How on earth do I save it?

For heaven's sake, I have been trying all day to save an overlay. I need some help.

O.k, I have black text on a transparent background, by what force of nature or settings known only to the gods, do I save it so it will still have a transparent background when I open it?

I'm no expert cos I'm still learning but I tried this before posting. Instead of merge>flatten (this makes your transparent b/g go white) do merge>visible and this keeps the transparent b/g. I saved as a psp file but it should work with png or jpg.

That's what I do, I do merge visible, and it'll stay transparent. Save as a .png file then you can use it in all the programs. Let us know if it works.

Jules is right except don't save as a jpg. Jpg. does not support transparency so you will end up with a white background. Save as a png if you are going to share it or save it as the native format in psp.

I save all my transparent stuff as a .pspimage file to save the layers if I want to change the image later. When I want to use it in other layouts as a transparent image I go file>export>png optimizer. Choose alpha channel transparency and existing image or layer transparency to keep the same transparency. Then give it a name and location to save.
