Help with PSP8

Hi Everyone!

I'm having some kind of problem with PSP8. Is it possible that PSP8 "locks up" if there are a lot of layers? I have one LO with 30 layers and I am no longer able to deform in order to select any of the elements--it is grayed out. Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi Debbie,

Graphics programs in general tend to be memory hogs. I use Photoimpact and until I increased the RAM on my PC I was always having problems with things locking up. You could try working with a smaller file to see if you have the same problem. Also, you should check to see what your disk space is looking like on your hard drive. Graphics programs utilize part of the hard disk space to cache the file you are working with. You'll need to have ample available hard disk space for this to take place.

Good Luck!

Help with PSP8

Mona,

Thanks for the tip. I've asked my husband about it (he's a programmer) and he said even with the graphics program being a memory hog, his new PC should more than handle it. So I guess my layout is done whether I want it to be or not!! I didn't have a problem with any of my other pages. I think this one was unique in that I had a lot of vector layers (different words in different fonts) and that is probably what has caused this melt down. But I do appreciate your help!

Hi Debbie,

I just thought of something else. Checking for spyware on your computer is always a good idea. When things start slowing down for me I usually have to run Ad-aware or Pest Patrol. Your layout does sound complex which is probably what's causing it.

Take care,

I also have a similar problem with PSP 8.1, however I have never been unable to select or deform, everything just freezes. For me it all depends on the size of the layout. The larger and higher resolution the layout is the slower it will be. One thing to check is your resolution. Make sure it is set to pixels/inch. I was working in mine recently and somehow it changed to pixels/cm which froze everything.

Are all of your tools locked or just your deform and select?

Hope you get it sorted out. The most layers I have had was around 25 and that was with an 8x10 300 dpi layout, and it never froze, and I only have 256 of RAM.

Here is a copy of a post I did at the PSP forums about shutting down or locking up. I hope this helps you.
I use version 7 but I was having the same problem. I found out that PSP was storying all my history of PSP in my temp file. It is suppose to delete them when you close PSP but wasn't doing it. Check your temp folder and see if there are lots of files in there you don't know where they came from. The files start with Und(all this is is a history of all your actions you have done to an object. it can't be used once you save a project. It's only use is so you can use my favorite buttons undo and history) . I deleted all these files and then create a separate file for PSP to place these files in. I still have the problem when I keep PSP open all day or it sometimes still doesn't delete the files on close. But now it is easier. When I think PSP is getting sluggish, I just check that file and most of the time it has lots of Und in it, i just say select all then delete.
I hoped I explained this right.

Help with PSP8

Thanks for all the suggestions! I've checked for temp files and there didn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary. However, my hubby said spyware could be it. So until he gets around to it.....! FYI--the vector layers deform just fine--it's only the raster layers that won't! Oh well, the lo is far enough along that I can live with it the way it is. If I get it posted, please feel free to let me know what you think. I'd ask for suggestions to make it better but alas, I can't make any changes!!!!! Ha, Ha!

Jasc PSP8 locking up fix

I had the same problem when I first intalled and starting using PSP8. I even supposidly had version 8.1. I told my hubby about it and he thought maybe there was a fix for it so he checked the Jasc website for any updates to the software. And there was one! It is under updates for PSP8.0, not PSP8.1. It included many fixes where the program would freeze up after using certain tools, etc. The update says it will update your version to 8.1, which I thought I already had, but we downloaded it anyway to see if it would fix my problems. So far it looks like it did! Try it and see if that helps at all.
