I just registered and I'm a male !

I thought I'd register to see what this scrapbooking is all about.

It seems fun but what amazes me is that it looks like it's dominated by females. I don't think I found a males name in any of the forums I looked at.

Is scapbooking a girlie thing or are there males also having a go at it.

I'm into digital photography and have been playing around with PS7 for about 4 months now.

Anyway can anyone give me a pointer on how to get started.

Thanks Ed (married with two kids just in case you were wondering!)

Welcome Ed!!!! There are a few guys around here but for some reason SBB does seem to be dominated by women. You are more than welcome here and maybe you can start a trend for more guys to take up this "obsession"!

As far as getting started, I'd take a look at the tutorials section and download some elements in the Gallery, and go from there. If you have any questions jsut shout!!!

Can't wait to see your first layout!

Welcome, Ed! I guess it's become more of a 'girlie' thing b/c we're the ones who usually have more of the interest in pictures and such but there are guys here! My b-i-l is one of them. Check out his gallery: Carlos Zepeda
also, here's another one that I can remember off hand. I know that there are more but I can't remember thier names. Just keep browsing, you'll eventually find them! lol!

*rofl* I'm sorry to be laughing in reply to your first post, Big Ed, but it just struck me as really funny --- 'I just registered and I'm a male!'

Anyways, welcome to SBB! Yup, 98% female here, so it's too bad you're married, huh? JUST KIDDING! (Most women, like me, who scrap are already married, anyways.)

I think it's because traditional scrapping is seen as very feminine. Once digital scrapping catches up to the same level as paper, I think a lot more males will get into it since it'll involve computers and other techno gadgets that make men feel more masculine.

But YOU can blaze a trail for the men to follow by making your presence known on the site in the meantime, right? Denis Germain, who has his own site at escrapper.com, and Carlos Zepeda, who Marsha mentioned, are both brilliant at scrapping, so it can definitely be done.

Can't wait to see your work!

Welcome aboard Ed!

You're correct that most of those involved in scrapbooking are female and that alot of the LO's (layouts) are more feminine in expression. As a fellow (married) male who is just getting into digital scrapbooking, I too wondered how I was going to create layouts that were more masculine in nature since every time I opened a magazine on the subject it was pretty much all "fluffy" stuff.

That being said, you've come to the right place to learn. Because there is such a huge volume of submitted LO's on SBB you will find a great diversity in expression. To get started, I would look through the Gallery, and when you find a style that you like, view that person's personal Gallery to get more ideas. Also, read through the Tutorials, and browse the Elements for ideas. The Design Team Members do awsome stuff! You can always ask folks for help, and they will come rushing to your aid.

Lastly, I just subscribed to the E-zine (which is of course, is in an computer format) and it has great ideas, articles, and free-bees from the Design Team. I found this to be a great investment since the cost of the digital "Special Editions" from the regular scrapbook magazines really adds up.

Oh, there is one "Special Edition" mag that I would really recommend to anyone getting started (like me), its from Memory Makers, and its called "Layout Mania". While it is written from the point of view of traditional paper scrapbooking, it has some great articles on the fundementals of design.

Again, glad you joined, and you're not alone!

Welcome to SBB, Ed. You can learn lots of new things here and get great ideas too. It's nice to see a masculine approache to a layout. Hopefully, more males will join us. I am very excited to see your LO style. Have fun.

Chris
