Hi everyone, I'm new here

I just found this forum and I'm hoping to enter the world of digital scrapbooking ... hoping you all can give me some hints and pointers. I'm already familiar with paint shop pro 8 and I'm a freelance graphic designer but I've never done the scrapbooking with it.

I was wondering a few things:

What's the best size to scrapbook in? Currently I use 10x10 (handmade) and I really love it. I'm not a huge fan of 8 1/2 x 11 but I'd consider doing it vertically or maybe even 8x8. I was skimming the boards and noticed that some of you do the 10x10 and just get it printed at Walmart or wherever ... I wonder if that's cost effective in Canada (I live in Alberta)

Anyways, I look forward to exchanging ideas and eventually displaying my first layouts with you all!

I don't know anything abt Canadian printing, but I do know many digital scrappers scrap 8x10, since it is a standard photo size and easy to print, as well as 8x8. Since 12x12 printers are coming down in price, you should see more scrappers reverting to that size, as they have in paper, but for now, it's difficult to get them printed in true 12x12, so many scrap in 12x12 and print at 11x11.

HTH!

well i scrapped paper at 12 x 12 and then when i went digital started at 8x10 so i could get them printed at a photo printer... but then i thought why not just go for the 8 x8 i like the square and they have a lot of great 8 x 8 albums. i can still have them printed for me or i can print them myself. It all depends. If you get a good deal on paper i think it works out cheaper for me to print myself. and my printer is great so that would not be a problem. I just bought a cute 6x6 album though partially because they didn't have any 8x8 and just because i liked it hehe. but my 8x8 layouts are easy to resize smaller to print 6 x 6. another reason people like 8x8 or 10 x 10 is the file sizes are smaller so it's usually easier on their computers. but if you want you can always work 12 x 12 and save those flattened just in case you ever do get them printed as such.

Hope that helps a little

Hi Katrina!

Welcome!! Sounds like you've got the tools down so you should eb scrapping in no time. Size is personal preference. I started with 5 X 7 moved to 8 X 10 briefly adn have now stuck at 12 X 12. I live in Japan and due to the humid climate and lack of A/C I'm waiting to go to print. I'm considering 11 X 11 which is apparently much cheaper that 12 X 12 or may even go with 8 X 8 which I can print myself. I recently printed some 5 X 5 and was really impressed at how good they looked.

You may also consider a coffee table book. Maya, who lives in Canada passed the follwoing link to me

Look forward to some of your layouts

Thanks for all the advice!

I'm just still on vacation now but as soon as I get back I hope to jump in with both feet! Although I did just take some pretty cute pics while on vacation and I'm dying to do a layout of some of them. We'll see howmuch time I can spend on the computer without seeming totally rude to my dear parents who are hosting us
