A few questions re: submitting lo's for publication...

Hi everyone! I know some of these q's will be kinda silly for some of you but I want to 'know' what I'm doing before I even think about submitting to mags. I had never seen a scrapbooking mag before this last weekend. (I went to Barnes & Noble and looked through a few...) Here are a few of my q's:

1. Can I submit a 'scraplifted' lo?
2. What are the best ones to submit to?
3. Are there any specific 'rules' or 'etiquette' that I should follow?

Also, which mags are the best to buy? I had about 5 of em in my hand (but at around $6.00 each I couldn't afford them all, lol!) Thanks in advance to you that can help!

(ps, can you tell that I'm really nervous about even submitting? Everyone else's work is soooo awesome!!)

No help...

but just wanted to say that I would love to see answers to these questions, too! For some reason...the whole process of submitting is overwhelming and scary (LOL) to me...so a little insight would be wonderful! Hope you get some answers! And...good luck!

Hi there, good questions and I'll do my best to answers:

1. Can I submit a 'scraplifted' lo?

In theory you shouldn't, afterall you've taken someone elses idea and used it. Sending it in for publication would imply that idea was yours. You caould alwasy get around this by asking the original creator if they mind. Its a bit cheeky, but hey you have nothing to lose if you really want to send in that layout.

2. What are the best ones to submit to?

Depends on what your goal is. Some magazines offer bigger prestige and rewards for publication, but if all you want to do do is see your layout in print then I would send them out to all of them. You can check out the magazine calls list here or go to Scrapsubmit which is a really neat website for submitting your layouts and keeps a really good track of what each magazine is looking for. Send in as many as you like but keeping to categories that they are looking for will help

3. Are there any specific 'rules' or 'etiquette' that I should follow?

Apart from the above mentioned, I can't think of any.

Also, which mags are the best to buy?

That comes down to persoanl preference and I have at one time or another bought a copy of them all to find the one I like most, though they're all very similar. Depends on your style too. Simple Scrapbooks is great fro the minimalist and short of time scrapper, CK I would say the leading scrapbook magazine and the one purchase most frequently. I also like Better Houskeeping.

Hope this helps

I'm certainly no pro at this- I've just found out I'd be getting my first LO published last month.

I only submit to the mags that pay $$$$

I know that sounds snobbish and I really don't mean to be. At first, I looked at it as what do I want with paper scrapbooking supplies I only scrap digital. But now, the more I intermingle with paper scrappers, the more it's I don't want paper scrapping supplies to enter my home. I really can't afford to take up paper scrapping and I'm afraid a goody pack from a mag would get me started. LOL! I avoided scrapping all these years because it was so expensive. Until I figured out that I could scrap cheaply digitally.
