Question Best way to compress/upload

I have just finished my first (decent) scrapbook page. It was created in PSE2, and even compressed to Medium jpg, the file size is still 1.5Mb, which is well over the limit for the gallery. I would like to upload to the gallery, but I'd appreciate instructions on the proper way to do that - I read the part where it said about the 125K file limit... I really need to know the best way to compress, which I think is my question!

Thanks,
Tobi

Tobi,
What I do in PSE is:
I create my layout at 300 dpi, but when I go to save for the web, I change it to 100dpi, then save for web (under file). Then I just change it from there to under 125kb. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Thumbs up Got it!

Thanks Roxy4, Actually, I played around with it and got it to work - I could compress it down, but I wasn't sure if there was a proper protocol to be followed for this site, in the filesave.

Thanks again,
tobi

I save it at even a lower DPI, Tobi, so it's rare that my pages are bigger than 125K with High compression. The web standard is usually 72 DPI, so that's what I go with, especially as I don't use the lower quality ones for anything but showcasing the pages on the Web.

I mentioned this on another thread, but I'll also mention it here too. Changing the dpi shouldn't make any difference.

For example, I save my 8x8 inch layouts at 300 dpi which is 2400 by 2400 pixels. When I change it to 72 dpi, my 2400 by 2400 pixels don't change, but the *inch* measurement does. My layout becomes 33.3 x 33.3 inches. Of course, all of this is 'behind the scenes' - the layout doesn't suddenly appear to grow because as you know, we are working on it in a reduced format to fit on the screen.

The only was to make it smaller is to reduce the 2400 pixels which I do. I make the layout about 700 x 700 pixels which is generally under 125 k [depending on number of colours and textures in the layout]. The mode of presentation determines its size in inches. On a screen at 72 dpi that is about 10 x 10 inches. My screen is actually at 96 dpi so it is closer to 7 x 7 inches. On my printer, it is very small since my printer prints at a much higher resolution.

I hope that helps in removing an unnecessary step...
