Question Newbie Question: How to import font to DIP?

Hi, I would like to use Tanya's groovy Mardi Gras font that I downloaded, but I don't know where to extract the zip file in order to use it in DIP 9?

Thanks in advance, you've all inspired me to try this crazy hobby!!!

When I extract fonts they go in one of two places. Go to your Fonts folder - My computer> (mine's) "C" drive>windows>fonts. The other way is to create a folder - mine's in My Documents- I called it Extra Fonts (couldn't think of anything else!), install it there and when you want to use a particular font, open Extra Fonts, then open the font you want and it will be available for use in your software programme. This saves you bogging down your computer if you have a lot of fonts installed and you will only use a particular font occasionally. I tend to install in the Windows>Fonts if I know it is a font that I will use frequently.

Hope this helps, if not, holler.

Jules

p.s. you won't regret coming to SBB, it's the coolest place around and VERY addictive.

Question One more newbie font question, s'il vous plait...

Thanks, Jules, for the help Now I notice that this Mardi Gras font (for example) is a .png file--I guess that's why I couldn't use it after I installed it in the windows font file (most of those fonts are ttf files...)? So what do all you digital scrappers do with .png fonts? Do you open the .png font file you want to use, then cut & paste each letter as you need it?

And you are right, btw--I am already SO glad I found this site. You folks are amazing!!! I am blown away by the talent of the folks here

Thanks again, RutgersAlum

EDITED TO ADD: That's exactly what I did, cut & paste the font with the freehand tool!

I've never used a .png font file, in fact I didn't know they existed until you mentioned it. Anything in .png I use the selection tool, cut and paste. Glad you've got it fixed out. I still class myself as a "newbie" but if I know the answers to any questions I'll post a reply. Enjoy!!

I think you are refering to Tonya's (gauchogirls) alpha. Alpha's are not fonts, so they can not be "installed", and used as a font. They are images that are used as elements in a LO. To use, cut with a lasso or free form marquee tool and then paste or drag over (depending on what program you use) to your page. Ali
