Photoshop elements, can i do this operation in this programme

wondered when i try and save a picture from google etc, even though it says jpg format on screen my computer will only let me save in art format, whatever that is and it never opens anyhow. so what i do in psp8 is copy and paste as new image onto my work area. Can i do anything similar in photoshop elements, if not how can i get it to save in jpg format instead of art to use by opening into photoshop elements, any help would be appreciated.
thanks susannah

What kind of computer are you using? If you're on a Mac I have some suggestions for you to try. I, too, have used some photos from google image search in my lo's.

I have not used images from google, but I have copied (Ctrl-C) and pasted (Ctrl-V) from other programs and that worked. You could also just rename the extension on your image after you saved it from art to jpeg and then you should be able to open it.

When I save images from the web, I right click on the image and then chose to save the image. Then under the box where the name of the file is there should be a drop down box where you select the file type. Make sure that the file type says JPG or try typing .jpg after the file name. I had that happen before, but it has been a while. -Ali

What Internet Browser are you using? That may affect it. If you can, use Microsoft Internet Explorer; it always lets you save it in jpeg. If not, copy and paste will always work.

Question photos in jpg format

Sometimes when I get photos etc from the net I will have it come up as art. I only have a bmp in the drop down box so I will save it to that .)only to be able to see it in my psp7.then go to my paint shop pro7 and change it by going to file/export/jpg optimizer.. this will add the jpg on it so I can use it that way. I have also made it jog by adding the ".jpg at the end of the file name when I am saving it. But it doesn't alsways work for me.

while typing this I noticed in this same area there is a png optimizer. Could I be doing the same thing to amke these into png form?? will this take away the background of any picture?
