Really New Here!

Hi, I just joined this forum due to looking for ideas for my sister's 25th wedding anniversary. I have heard of scrapbooking before, but I don't think I can afford all the stuff that goes with it. I have seen a scrapbook once, but that is the extent of my knowing anything about them. Then I saw this site and forum, and knowing my love of the computer, I thought this might be doable. Now, I am working in a 4 week frame of time here, so I need to get started right away, and need some guidelines, as all these terms are confusing.
I use PSP7 for my graphic work, and have seen a few of the tutorials on here on effects, but again that is my extent. Is this something I can do on my own without software? Can I make a layout of some of my sister's old wedding pictures, and some up to date pictures, and find a layout that I like using PSP? Then can I just print out the whole page on photo paper and put it in a regular photo album??? I have a Lexmark P3100 printer, that prints out awesome photgraphs. I have used PSP for 5 years, so I know how to use that...I am just confused as to all the details.
Also, are there anniversary layouts out there??? I have yet to see one. I see a few wedding ones, but...
Sorry this is so long, I just really want to do this, but am confused and lost as to how limited I am...Thanks for any info, and for letting me join!!

of course you can do this with what you have. A ton of people here use PSP.
And all you need is your imagination. there are no guidelines other than what you like and want to do. Browse the gallery for inspiration. Check out the elements gallery and download some elements if you want to use there are a ton of quality elements and even some pre made pages all you do is add the pictures.

IF there are certain techniques taht you want to learn just ask. the possibilities are limitless. you can print straight from the printer you already have or have it printed out for you.

in general for print you need to make your page layouts at a resolution of 300 ppi .

Standard sizes for pages are
12 x 12 inches
8 x 8 inches
8 1/2 x 11 ( landscape and portrait)
8 x 10 ( landscape and portrait)
5 x 7 ( landscape and portrait)

and more really the size of your album is determined by the album you want to put it in ( or make if taht be that case)

but those sizes have albums that you can buy readily available to put your pages in.

This is just some brief information i hope this helps.

Even if you know nothing abt digital scrapbooking, you are already ahead of the game by knowing PSP so well!

Since you just have four weeks in which to complete an album, I would suggest a very simple design like black backgrounds, one-two photos per page, some silver-colored journaling, and maybe a dreamy filter on the photos to make it look more classic-elegant like the photo in this layout:

If you go to the Tutorials link in the menu bar above this, it will bring you to a page of tuts, and a simple page in PSP should be there. I don't use PSP myself, but we have a Forum specifically for PSP, so go there with any program questions.

Let us know if you need any more help! Feel free to PM me with any more questions.

You are not limited at all. I use PSP7 for all my LO's. Do a search for PSP in the gallery and you will find many people use this program. I will look for some anniversary LO's. Here is a link to my gallery to one of the 3 pages I did of my parents wedding. http://www.scrapbook-bytes.com/galle...hp?photo=20727 There are lots of elements and kits in the elements gallery that would work for an anniversary alblum. If you need any help just pm me.

Thanks for the help. I am still confused though. What are those elements?
I went to the elements pages, and some are cute (not for anniversary though) but what are they and how do you use them?
Maybe I need to spend more time just looking at samples??
Also what is PM? Thanks.

HI! Welcome to SBB!
First, stop and take a deep breath! This isn't nearly has confusing as you may think it it. You can do it!
I use PSP 8 for all of my layouts but I started out with PSP 7, so you can deffinantly do this stuff with PSP.
The single most important thing in my opinion is using layers. It makes all the difference in the world. Since you are familiar with PSP I am asuming you know how to use layers. Elements are things to add to your page. There are papers and textures which become the background for your page (what the pictures go on top of) everything else is just icing on the cake so to speak. You add the extras to the page however you like. Just remember to add them as a new layer so that you can manipulate them how you like without having to change everything on the page.
To add texture and depth to your lay outs try experimenting with brushes, and textures. You can add texture two ways. One is to go to efects, texture, add texture and play with the levels and options there. Another is to use the patern fill tool and play with the opacity of the layer.
Just start playing around and you'll see how it works.
PM's are private messages. To view private messages go to your user control panel or if you look above the navication buttons search, quick links, and log out, you will see a little cream box that says welcome and has a link to your Private messages. To send a private message click on a persons name and go to send private message.
I hope that helps ya!
If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Sandra
