I'm a newbie and wondering....

Found this website the other day because I've been seriously considering digital scrapbooking because I could never get into paper scrapbooking (too time consuming since I'm a sahm with an active 3 year old) My goal is to create my scrapbooks online but I'd like to also have a hardcopy.

I'm wondering how many people do this only electronically or does most everybody print out a hardcopy? Do you store your albums on CD's? I'd love to hear some of the veteran scrapbookers responses.

I can tell I'm going to be doing lots of research on this forum about printers, paper, etc.

Looks like I'm going to find lots of good stuff!!!!

I'm not a veteran at all. But I do not intend to make many hardcopies.

My layouts are shown on tv through a DVD-player.
Sofar the count is: 52 layouts in 9 albums and my CD isn't in the least full yet.

Only on very special occasions I will make hardcopies because I allso love to stumble around with real paper too! But they are so space-consuming that I won't go for it!

My layouts look different from others because on a tv there are less pixels and the text and pics have to be larger then on most layouts to be seen from the couch.
I beleave most make hardcopies anyways (looking at most layouts)
If you have only the slightest idea of making hardcopies. Make them as hardcopies (the right size etc.)
You can always compress them for the internet or something, but you can't make them bigger afterwards so the look nice on paper!

I always burn my Layouts to cd when I have enough of them to fill one. and sometimes even before then.

I also print all my lo's at walmart through their digital photo printing service. an 8 x 10 is about $2.30 somewhere around there. I was doing landscape 8 x 10 but now i'm doing 8 x 8 more because i've decided I like the square pages. and I already have some square books so this worrks out.

I do both paper and digital scrapping but i tend to spend more time on digital and make more lo's. Paperscrapping has become more of a card making thing or an excuse to hang out with people like at crops. I swear as soon as some of the Local scrapbook stores get some computers and organize in preson digital crops I'm so there. I also feel more productive making digital Lo's but i don't feel that I do it any faster than a paper Layout.

Well that's my info for you i hope that helps you . If you have any other questions about anything feel free to ask there are always a ton of knowledgable people and one of us is bound to knwo the answer.

I try to interchange the two so that people who don't know can figure it out. it is LayOut see. a page layout is what we refer to as a LO commonly used terms jsut get abbreviated. hehe.

I hope that helps and i havne't seen a thread with a glossary of abreviation on this site but Dh DS DD and so on are dear wife dear husband dear daughter dear son, those are the most common i see are the D's and LO

I do some of both for displaying my layouts.

Some of them are simply burned to a disc and displayed as a slideshow on the computer for family and friends. The ones that I really like are getting set up into a file which I am almost ready to print.

It is more expensive here in Japan to get prints made but we get 8x10's for about $6 (US) . I actually do my layouts in 12x12 format though but I can shrink them to 8x8 if I decide to go with a smaller book later.

I always try to back up my layouts on disc once a week. I'd hate to loose them just because I forgot to back them up and then have a system crash or something! So, that is partly why I back them up so frequently. I use CD-RW for the backup part so I can just add to it and I use the CD-R for the final saving of files or for distributing to family/friends.

As for terms and such, if you ever see and ab. that you don't know just post it to this forum and I'm sure you'll get some answers You may also notice that you'll figure them out as you go along

Welcome to the site!
