Image Size and Resolution--HELP!

I had a digital camera that was 5.0 megapixels (it was a Kodak) and my pictures saved at 230 ppi and 8.5inches by 11 inches at the highest quality settings. That camera was stolen, and I got a new one (Medion) which had a lot more features and is 5.18 megapixels. I was thinking the quality of the pictures would be better, but now I’m so confused. The pictures on my new digital camera are saved in 72 ppi and 35 inches by 26 inches at the highest quality camera settings. I want to be able to use some of the picture I take for elements, but in 72 ppi they’re just really grainy. What can I do? Any suggestions?

well other than taking you through what may have caused this

to answer your question directly I have a tutorial on reducing/ ridding yourself of digital noise. and you merely need convert from 72 to 300 ppi by using the images sizing feature available in most software and be sure to NOT resample when adjusting this resolution.

if you have the ability to use the LAB mode in your program then this tutorial will work for you LAB and a blur like gaussian blur i hope this helps you

I also have a tut on sharpening in LAB mode as well.

i hope this helps
