Question Question about "sticky" pages...

Hi everyone, my name is Stephanie--I'm brand new to computer scrapbooking-- but not new to scrapbooking. I caught the digital photography bug a couple years ago and with my most recent digital camera, I've finally decided that it was good enough to leave my 35mm and APS SLR cameras behind, for now. For my birthday last year, my husband gave me Photoshop 7.0-- I got frustrated because the manual was so overwhelming (and my degree is in computer science, yikes). So, I enrolled last month in a Photoshop for Photographer's class offered by a local digital studio. Wow-- what an amazing tool. So I was standing in line to pick up my prints at Ritz one day and found this Computer Scrapbooking magazine. I spent the next day absorbed in information from the magazine and online links. I discovered this forum last week and I can't get enough :-) Everyone here completely amazes me. I only hope that I can find enough time to figure things out. I have two daughters, ages 2 and 3 and I work part-time-- so my spare time is limited to after bedtime.

If you made it this far-- thank you-- now here's my question. I decided not to invest money in equipment and such until I find out if I like and can do this new hobby-- I don't have a large format printer, just a plain 2 year old hp deskjet. So far it has served it's purpose as I get most of my photos done in a lab. I use Kodak Premium Picture Paper with the High Gloss finish. When I printed my first few layouts and put them in the album (Colorbok top loading 8x8)- I noticed that the black parts of my pages seem to stick to the page protectors. Is this my printer ink, the paper that I'm using, the album? Is this even preventable? Any help would be greatly appreciated before I waste money on supplies to try to find out what my problem is by trial and error.

Thanks again!

Stephanie

Welcome to Scrapbook Bytes! I have this problem with the ink sometimes when it is a dark color. Try leaving the page out of the protected and let it dry for a day or two. That worked for me. I also remember reading somewhere that there is a spray that stops this. If I find that info I will let you know or maybe someone else remembers where it is. Hope the first suggestion works.

Talking Hey thanks! I found a thread in Miscellaneous...

that talks all about paper, ink, spray, etc... so sound like I'm not alone. I'm going to try that Krylon Preserve It Spray and when I run out of paper-- I'm switching to semi-gloss or matte.

After printing my pages I let the ink set for a few minutes. Then I interleaf them with plain printing paper and leave them for at least 24 hours. Some papers tend to smear if you don't let the ink set a few minutes first, especially the dark areas. The plain paper is supposed to absorb the extra moisture. I read this hint somewhere and it seems to help. Also helps the pages lie flat.

Welcome and have fun!
Carole
