DIP users: Removing background from pic ?

Hi everyone...I'm wondering whether there is an easy way to get rid of backgrounds and have it seem smooth. I've used the edge finder to cut out the subject and pluck her into another background, but the results are so-so. I use edge softener/transparency brush and it looks okay, but are there other ways to make it look like an image you cut out blends w/new background? Thanks!

my trick-

I have found that some photographs just are easier to snip the subject out.

I often use the color selection tool (found in the create a cut out) to highlight the primary subject. Sometimes this bleeds into the background of the photo I'm trying to pull the subject out of but most of the time I'm able to get them cut out without much trouble. I then use the transparency brush to touch up the misc. stuff.

I've done this on a few layouts if you want to peek they are here :

One thing I have learned to really rely on when using the edge finder is really play with the width pixel amount option. The lower the number (I often use 10) the more precise the edge. Also remember, once you complete your circle, you can click on "adjust edges" and make slight moves to your edge finder. I hope that helps. Oh, one more thing, I'm assuming you're edge finding around the object you want to keep, and then once that is done, you'll have to click "invert" which then selects all the background then you can go to "edit" "delete". I hope that helps.
