Talking Hello...I'm new here!

Hi everybody. I just joined officially yesterday, although I've been checking things out for a bit longer.

I'm Jodi and I live in Iowa with my husband and 2 sons. I'm a stay-at-home (part-time work-at-home) homeschooling mom. I recently cut way back on my 'home work' because it was cutting into my 'SAHM' work too much. Now I'm mostly just doing graphic and ad design and 'assorted projects' for a national homeschooling magazine as well as database administration work for a couple of homeschool companies. Yes, I am IMMERSED in the homeschooling culture - and we love it!

Other than that, I enjoy spending time reading, scrapbooking when I get a chance (!), chatting in a homeschool chatroom/help center which I co-founded, researching our genealogy, doing web design (including web graphics), and generally just learning new things. Wow, no wonder I'm always tired!

To kick this off, I designed my first ever 100% digital layout today. I usually do computer journaling and maybe an element, which I then use with 'real' photos, paper, fibers, embellishments, etc. I tend to be a 'lumpy bumpy' scrapper, so the 'all flat' thing is different for me. I think I will be doing more digital work, however, since my computer is upstairs where my children usually are and my scrap room is in the basement where I can't keep an eye on them! So if I want to get anything done...I think I'll need to do more computer layout work. The photos are piling up...

So here is my layout. It contains both shared elements and ones I made myself. Constructive criticism is always welcome! Teach me, teach me!!

Hi Jodi,

Welcome... you'll find this is a great site. Digital scrapping is a lot of fun (I started out as a paper scrapper too.) Your first digital layout is very good .

I have a soft spot for Iowa. I'm a Canadian but my mom is originally from Iowa (she married a Canadian) ...we spent every summer when I was a kid (50s & 60s) visiting my grandparents' farm in Iowa.

yes welcome!!! Great Job on the Lo btw. you'll find tons of awesome tutorials and plenty of informative people here. If you have a chance particpate in the challenges and speed/snail scraps!! they are great for inspiration and ideas as well as pushing you outside your box! (I'm very exclamative!)

There are also forums dedicated to certain software so if you have any software specific questions that's your place. Anything specific you'd like to know? Because there is a lot to learn and I can't sum it up in one post LOL

You're off to a great start though. keep it up!

Wow! That is a fabulous page!! I love the quote and the picture is great! It's beautiful! Welcome to the SBB. I'm sure you will love it here. Computer scrapping is so addictive. Since I started in November, I haven't done a lick of paper scrapping. I look forward to getting to know you and seeing more of your work!

Thanks everyone for the welcomes and the nice compliments! I'm always very hard on myself and my work, so I really appreciate the pats on the back.

Snail scraps, huh? That sounds like JUST what I need! Just my speed. Is there a way to be notified when these are going to take place?

I've now completed my 2nd 100% digital layout and posted it to my gallery. If anyone wants to take a look, it is here:

BeanBag

A bit different from the last one, which was a heritage layout. I was just goofing around to see what I could do with these photos that I normally probably wouldn't have scrapped. I got some new elements made out of the deal and learned how to do some new things, so it was worthwhile. (At least I think so...my dh who has not seen me all day because I've been glued to the computer may beg to differ!!).

Thanks again for the encouragement!

Wink Welcome, Jodi.

Congratulations on joining a super, great place to share and learn. Everyone here is so friendly, and most importantly, helpful. If you see something you like be sure to send them a message and ask how they did it. These gals have a wealth of information and are so generous in sharing their techniques. Your first 2 LO's are great, congratulations but I must warn you -- this stuff is habit forming!!! Get ready to become obsessed with this site!
