Question what kind of photo paper do you use?

I have always used HP premium glossy paper to print my pictures because I love the quality. But it is expensive. I am looking for an equally high-quality paper for less cost. What does everyone out there recommend?

Thanks,
Lisa

Paper

I don't know what the price on the HP paper is, but I use Epson papers, all different kinds. When I am making photographic prints, I also use Ilford Galerie papers.

Each different kind of paper you use will have different results. Some will end up with the colors being "cooler", some "warmer". Reds often shift the most dramatically.

I do manage to get some of my paper a little cheaper (for the standard sizes) by watching for sales at Office Depot and Office Max. Fairly often they have a "buy one get one free" promotion. I try to stock up when they have that.

I've seen this posted somewhere else, and someone had said that Kodak papers are cheaper and provide better colors with the HP printer. Might be worth a try.

Thanks!

I appreciate the input. I'll keep my eyes open for those "buy one, get one free" sales and I'll also give Kodak papers a try!

Thanks,
Lisa

I went through a finding the best paper kind of craze a while ago and I found what I thought was the best paper at a very good price and it was waterproof too. I have tons and I mean tons of paper here. Then I found a really big draw back when I entered 5 of my photos in the fair. One of them faded to a greenish tint under the floressent lights, I was lucky because the judging had finished before then but I was very emberresed that it was so green. I then went crazy looking into why this happened with 1 but not the other 4. As it turns out you really should stick with the paper that your printer company puts out, the ink is made to last with it. The cheaper your paper the quicker it will fade. Kodak is an ok alternative to most if the printer brand papers it is pretty universal. I pretty much stick to HP papers for my printer now and tend to buy in bulk to cut down on the cost, I also use a spray protectant on my photos to help protect them, give them a longer life, and it even help bring out the colors that much more.

I just talked to someone else this morning that told me to buy some of that spray to protect the photos and enhance the colors. He says it comes in gloss and matte, etc. Thanks for the tip. It is looking like I'll try to stick with HP and just look for some great deals!!!
