Brushes- Not even sure what to ask

I know there are all these brushes in PSE. I see ppl's fantastic mottled backgrounds with words embedded on them, etc...and they say they created them with brushes.

I did create a neat powder effect using a large spatter brush...but I am so clueless as to what even to do- I know there is A LOT of options for great stuff, but I haven't found very many tutorials to make me aware what is possible.

I would love to learn more about how to utilize this feature of PSE.

Brushes

There are a couple of tutorials here on how to use brushes to make fibers. Be sure to look at these. I've learned a lot from the gallery. Other than that I've just played around with PSE to see what the brushes do. You may want to download some of the free brushes available on the internet. Right now I have more than I know what to do with! But they've given me more options. Basically, I select the brush tool, choose a brush, change the brush size if necessary and brush away. You'll also need to select a color. Play around with the options tool as well. You can use the brush like a stamp or you can drag it. By adjusting the options you get different effects.

You'll probably get more details from those who have had more experience. I just wanted to share what I know. Mostly I learn by just trying everything.

Hope this helps.

Carole,

Is absolutely right- Getting to grips with brushes can be done by just getting yourself aquainted with them. There are so many brushes out there and you can even create different effects with the same brushset by changing your preferences. I have been writing an article about Montage in the Ezine of the past few months which highlights the use of brushes in a montage. You may find that useful, but in short you need to save the brushset to your Adobe Presets file. Select the paint brush or eraser depending on whether you wish to add or akeaway from a layer and change your preferences to taste. A few favourite brush sites of mine:

Ditto what the others said!

Here is another site a lot of people use

http://truly-sarah.com/Main.htm

I just go mad downloading loads of brushes from loads of places and rarely use them all, you eventually find out what your favourties are.

Have fun, brushes can be quite addicting, like fonts are

Thanks for this info! I made my first brush last night from one of my photos and I'm hooked. Wow. The possibilities.

Hi guys!

As always- thanks for sharing all your wonderful links and knowledge! I am wondering- would anyone be willing to share links to their LO's using various brushes? I am a very visual person, to get me started. I have played with a few brushes, have downloaded a TON of them, and just need some visuals to get me going. I have a ton of great ones to use, but need a bit of ideas to spark me getting to use them.
Thanks!

I'm no expert like these awesome ladies but here is a page I did using brushes. If you notice the orange dots on the sunflowers. Thats made with a brush.

Dream in color

Hope this helps!

Edited to add: The blocky things on the title letters is also a brush. I tried to make them look distressed.
