Organize within a file?

I need help figuring out how to organize all of these files. I save all of my layouts in a folder called albums. Within the album folder I have subfolders for png format, 300jpg, 72jpg, and word document to hold all credits of font type, elements etc. My problem is within each of these folders I would like to be able to organize in the sequence I choose not always in alphabetical order. How would I do this? Do I assign a number or something? This way once I burn to a CD if it is in the proper order I can show it on the TV and be like a flip album.
Thanks,
Chelsea

Hmm. . .

I think if you do numbers it will put anything with a 1 first and then anything with a two- i.e. 1, 10, 11, 2, 21

I've got my folders here at work with a letter of the alphabet before the title- i.e. A Housekeeping, B Caseload, C Regional- that puts them all in the order I want them. But that would only work if you only had 26 files. From there, you'd have to get really smart and the aa file would have to be that needs to go between A and B.

If you choose a number system, you need to remember that the computer will organise like this: 1, 11, 111, 2, 22, 222 and so on. In order to use this system, you need to begin with 01, 02 etc. In other words, the computer doesn't count like us - it recognises the digits and orders that way.

When I burn my CDs I simply sort by date created before I burn it and my burning software burns it in that order.

Instead of trying to create your own number system you could just put the event date at the beginning of the file name. For example, the file name 20030321_baby.jpeg would be for March 21, 2003 (when the pictures were take) and baby would be the LO title. If you name all your files this way then when you sort by filename the LO would be in the chronological order of the events (not when the LOs were created).

Just a thought!

I agree with Stacy!

I have named all the pages in our chronological family album YYYYMMDD_pagetitle.jpg to keep them in order on my CDs. I tried to do the numbered thing, but I hated having to add '00012a' if I needed to sneak an LO in between others I'd previously done.

I also used the first system I mentioned when scanning photos and memorabilia in from my parents' albums for my baby books. The CDs are divided into 2-3 year segments, so putting the date first keeps all the, for example, 1994 things together and first on my 1994-1996 CD.

HTH!
