?trojan horse

Hi,

Along with computer sbing I love to do slide shows and video shows on the computer. I was recently looking at the Ulead website and wanted to download the trial version of their movie editor. When I did this my Norton security blocked it because there was a trojan horse attached. So I left it that day and then tried again today and I got the same message. Norton said it was blocked for 30 minutes. Does anyone have any idea what to do with this? I would like to get the trial to see if I like it before purchasing but I can't seem to download it.

On Monday I switched from dial up to high speed and when I was on dial up I never had this problem, maybe just lucky!

VERY lucky. you don't want to download anything that has a trojan horse attached. be thankful your Norton is doing it's job.

Sierra, did you look around the ULEAD website, and see if they said anything about downloading their trial and problems with anti-virus software? I know one time, I downloaded something from a reputable vendor, and they specifically said "this will cause a virus warning because of some way we packaged something, but it's ok". (Paraphrasing, of course.)

I do agree with iluv, that you need to be very careful. I'm sure not saying, "what the heck, give it a try".

Maybe if you don't see anything on the ULEAD website you could email their customer service.

HTH.

Some comanies that offer "Free Demos" attach "trojan horse" programs to "monitor" your on-line activity. Many of these spy-ware programs are harmless to your computer, but in my opinion, a violation of privacy! I dont want someone else pokin around my computer, lookin at where I go and what i do online, what other programs I have and use.

SOOOOO.....thanks to Nortons (gotta love good virus protection) and Ad-Aware I have been able to catch, isolate and remove MANY trojan horse/spy ware programs. Ad-Aware searches your computer for the data-mining cookies and other spy-ware programs that send out information, and removes them for you. They have 3 diffrent versions of the program, including a free version that works quite well!

You'd be surprised how many spy-ware programs you have on the inital scan.....i know i was.

Thanks so much for your help. I finally phoned Ulead and asked them about the problem. They said that sometimes the firewall interfers with the download. They suggested turning off my firewall (which I really don't like) but when I discussed it with Ulead they suggested turning off Norton and relying on my XP firewall (which I have both on). So I did but as soon as it was done I turned on my firewall and did a Norton system scan. Nothing turned up so I think I am okay.

I also use ad-aware and usually do a scan every month or so but didn't think about doing another scan after I was done. I will do that too.

Thanks so much
Sierra
