Question what are brushes????

OK, I am getting pretty good at photoshop. I have PS7.... Anyway- I know how to use a basic brush to fix a blemish or scratch.... But I am just not getting the concept of what everyone is talking about with creating brushes. I saw a beautiful site (was it space_raven?) with downloadable brushes.

Can someone first give me a good basic definition of what these brushes do? And next, show me some examples and toss me some basic ideas? thanks!!!

Basically you could equate a bruch in PSP to a stamp in traditional scrapping.

You make a "brush" which is essentially a stamp. When you load that brush, you choose your color as you would doing traditional scrapping, and then when you use it, the result will look like a stamp. I actually call them stamps all the time, lol.

Hope this helps.

stace.

Cool! Ok, so you create and/or download brushes. Then do you place them by using your mouse and clicking where you want them to be? Do you right click on them to change the size, just like you would to change a traditional brush?

You use them exactly like a normal brush (round, etc.). You can drag them, resize them, change the angles, change the distance they stamp when you hold it down and drag, etc. Play around with them a bit and see how you like them! You just load them into your PSP "brushes" folder when you download them.

Stace.

You are just awesome! But you knew that already.... OK, I have downloaded elements and backgrounds, but nothing specifically for PS7 yet. So, sorry for the dummy question- but where would this lovely folder be?
