I am new in the CG community although I have been doing it for a long time. I am just wondering if scanning elements is considered cheating... By cheating I mean when you say "100% CG Layout" and you've scanned in a metal tag or a fiber etc.
Just wondering how serious this gets!

April - I'm pretty sure lots of the CG scrappers do this at times from a much needed paper clip to a special patterned paper.

I definitely agree with Amy that nearly every CG scrapper uses scanned elements from time to time.

Now, this is just my own opinion...

It's not that I consider it cheating (not in the least), but when I do a layout myself with scanned elements, I don't consider it 100% CG. I just feel that when I do use scanned elements and say that my lo is 100% CG, it de-values the elements that I worked very hard at creating completely on the PC. Does that make sense...I don't know, I'm pretty anal when it comes to my own lo's...LMBO!

I still appreciate and enjoy lo's just the same when a scanned element is utilized though!

hmmm, good point. i always say 100% CG, meaning designed, edited, etc on the computer, not necessarily generated. i used scanned items if i need/want to. guess we should say computer layout, not generated if we use scanned items. or something like that. it's like hand scrappers using FreshCuts (printed embellishments) only we do it in reverse, sometimes using real items. anyway, it's not cheating, because it's not a contest, it's preserving your memories! as with hand scrapping, no rules, just fun. whatever works for you. wording, well who knows? we're pretty serious around here about learning and scrapping, but not about calling anyone cheaters!
