copyright question

I just got an email from MMs requesting one of my paper LOs for their new Family Tree Book. I haven't received the paperwork yet, but I am a little worried about some of the pictures - school pics, studio shots, etc. I checked the company's websites and they have an option to submit requests for copyright release. Is this going to work? I am so afraid that I won't end up being able to go through with this. It will be my first published piece and I am sooo excited. I don't want anything to ruin it - any suggestions? I sure would appreciate it. Thanks, Cindy

i just can't remember if mm asked for releases or not, sorry. some do, some don't and i can't remember which ones did. but i'm sure if you call the company you'll get your releases. it's for a sb mag, so i doubt they'll mind. they'll also get free advertising in the mag (i'd mention that) as it'll say photos by... I would go ahead and work on getting your releases.

I have a bunch of newspaper clippings and some 8X10's from the Corpus Christi Caller Times. I wanted to scrapbook them and plan to eventually submit them. So, I sent them an email.

The response was very nice. They hadn't even thought about scrapbooking and copyrighting. They said sure as long as I give credit. It's really a win-win because their product would be mentioned in the magazine.

I work for a portrait studio, and their policy is that it's OK, but please give credit to the photographer.
