For the ladies who use ACDSee I have questions!!

So, i have the laptop, 1 portable HD and 1 back up HD.

If I tag, categorize, etc.... on my laptop can I then use the copy feature to the portable and back up HD and will it keep all my tags and categories?

Can you share your method if you use an external HD as back up?

Are you wanting to backup your tagging info or your actual digital files or both?

For backing up your database...your authors, captions, categories, etc...I recommend using the backup function under tools|backup database and don't check the box by 'include file of type'. Here's a tutorial to walk you through it.

For backing up your digital files there's a synchronize feature...you can run it to both the EHD and your backup HD and it will know what's changed or added so after the first one they won't take nearly as long to run. Here's the tutorial to show you that one.

Now here's the fun part. When you run the backup database wizard, put the backup in a folder somewhere in your digi-stash. Now when you synch you'll get a backup of your backup. Can't beat that!

Using 'Move to' or 'Copy to' on a large number of files at once is not recommended...don't ask me how I know! (Yes, I wrote speed tagging after having to start over several times! LOL!)

HTH!

Hi Kristi!
Thanks for the links.
I actually want to do both. Before ACDsee I worked a specific way and I'd like to keep doing that.

Basically, all my stuff gets stored on the 500gig EHD kinda my back up files. When I'm working on a project I'll either put them in my smaller EHD to take with me or on the laptop. But sometimes I'll have 5 - 10 project folders so I'd like the ability to still search for what I need with the tags in place. Does this make sense? Cause sometimes I don't...lol But is this doable with the syncing option?

I think after reading the articles I might have a better understanding.

Thanks much!!
